ICAP Must Rethink Its Disqualification Policy for CA Students
I just watched a video of a CA student crying after being disqualified by ICAP for not clearing her exams within the specified number of attempts — and honestly, it broke my heart.
I feel this policy is deeply unjust. A student who has spent years studying, clearing most papers, and giving their best effort shouldn’t be forced to leave the profession just because they couldn’t pass one or two remaining exams.
The decision to step away from the qualification should come from the student’s own free will, not as a result of disqualification. When someone is forced out, it doesn’t just end their academic journey — it leaves a deep psychological scar, a feeling that they were pushed out, not that they chose to move on.
I can personally relate. It took me 5 years to clear my CAF exams. I know the sleepless nights, the self-doubt, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with each failure. And to imagine being disqualified after all that effort — it’s unbearable.
ICAP needs to review this policy.
We need to raise our voice — not against the institute, but for compassion, fairness, and mental well-being of our future professionals.
