Today, I am glad to have the opportunity for my clients to listen to Mr Patrick Tan (Founder and CEO of Fortis Law Corporation) sharing on the following matters: Advance Care Planning Workbook, Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), Advance Medical Directive (AMD) and Will.
Below are pointers that I would like to share.
In life, it is important we have these three key planning in place.
1) Advanced Care Planning
2) Estate Planning
3) Financial Planning
Advanced Care Planning is to plan for future health & personal care if we become ill one day. Such planning takes into consideration our wishes and healthcare preferences.
The LPA is a legal document that allows us to appoint people who will act and make decisions on behalf of us if we lose our mental capacity. (https://www.moneysense.gov.sg/articles/2018/11/lasting-power-of-attorney-lpa)
The AMD is a legal document that allows us to reject extraordinary life-sustaining treatment to be used to prolong your life when one is terminally ill and unconscious. (https://www.moh.gov.sg/policies-and-legislation/advance-medical-directive)
Making a Will is an important step in life. Will is used for various purposes such as paying off debts, assigning of guardianship, funeral arrangements, allocation and distribution of immovable and movable properties. However, we must note that Will cannot cover or distribute our CPF monies (it is based on our own CPF nomination).
The Will can also be used to distribute the benefits received from your insurance policy to your chosen beneficiaries if there is no nomination done for your policies.

Having the partnership with FortisWills, which is one the most established will writing and estate planning companies in Singapore, I look forward to providing such value added service to clients which complement a comprehensive financial planning.
