📢📢 IMPORTANT TAX SEASON REMINDER 📢📢
Please be cautious when switching tax preparers from year to year.
Many taxpayers who changed preparers after last season are now receiving IRS letters requesting verification of dependents and income. This often happens when current year tax information differs from what was reported in prior years.
When dependents, income, filing status, or credits are reported inconsistently, it can trigger an IRS review. This does not automatically mean anything was done incorrectly, but it does mean the IRS requires supporting documentation.
If you decide to switch preparers, be sure that:
✔️Dependents are claimed correctly and consistently
✔️All income is reported accurately
✔️Required documentation is provided and thoroughly reviewed!!!!
Tax preparers do not cause audits; however, inconsistencies from one tax year to the next can raise red flags.
The best way to protect yourself is to work with a preparer who practices due diligence and ensures your return accurately reflects your true tax situation every year.
