"A Man is Not a Financial Plan"

I absolutely love this quote from the Women's Institute for Financial Education website. As a woman that grew up in an error when most mothers did not work but stayed home to raise their children and take care of the home this resonates with me very LOUDLY at this time in my life.

When I was young, married, raising children . . . even though I did work I really didn't think about retirement specifically for myself because my then husband worked for a great company with great retirement benefits.

Fast forward years later after divorce, single motherhood and now approaching retirement age I now realize that my lack of financial education (I'm an Accountant!) as a younger woman and not being forward thinking in my finances has left me in a position that many women find themselves . . . wondering how will I make it through my years of retirement . . . will I be able to retire? . . . what happens when I can no longer work?
