Some of the most powerful financial journeys don't come from experts, but from everyday women who had no choice but to figure it out. These guests don't have fancy titles or credentials, but their stories are the kind that remind you it is never too late to start over.

1️⃣Damita Ware founder of Servants Who Care, U.S. Air Force veteran, and nurse has rebuilt her life and her finances more times than most people would believe possible. In this conversation, she opens up about surviving on one income as a single mom after losing her ex-husband at 39, returning to nursing school near 50 with no job and a $15K 401(k) loan, and walking away from full-time employment at 60 to start her own business with nothing but savings, investments, and faith.

She is doing much needed work for veterans and returning citizens. Check out her work and donate here: https://servantswhocare.com/

2️⃣Tanya Washington started over after divorce at 60, after 32 years of marriage, after losing her identity, after everything she thought was permanent suddenly wasn't. She shares how she went from a 498 credit score to a 742, earned two associate degrees later in life, and found herself again after decades of being a wife, mother of nine, and first lady of a church.

If you have ever felt like you missed your window, these two will change your mind.

I have to share something with you all. 💜

After hours of practicing my five-minute pitch, I found myself standing backstage, completely blank. I was the last person to pitch and I couldn't even remember my opening statement. Yikes!

Then they called my name. And once I started talking, the nerves disappeared.

Yesterday I walked away with second place in the BBB Breakthrough Accelerator Pitch Competition. 🎉

The biggest win wasn't the placement. It was proving to myself that I could stand on that stage, share my vision, and trust that what I knew was enough.

Preparation matters. But perfection doesn't.

Second place was encouraging. But this isn't the finish line. It's another step toward the impact I want to make for the women and organizations I serve.

My first pitch competition has given me a taste to want to do this again.

Let's go! 💜

Thank you BBB Greater Atlanta for the opportunity and Henry County Chamber of Commerce for the nomination to the program.

5,000 plays and downloads. 89 episodes.

I won't pretend this came about through consistency, especially the last season. Life happens. Family emergencies, personal emergencies, seasons where showing up to record felt impossible, like I hit a brick wall.

Every episode, every conversation about rebuilding credit, paying off debt, navigating money after divorce, those didn't disappear while life was lifing. They kept doing their work.

If you're in a season where you've had to pause something you built, please know that pausing is not the same as abandoning. The foundation you laid is still holding weight, doing its job.

5,000 downloads later, I'm reminded that 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁. Sometimes it just means coming back.

Grateful for everyone who's listened and stuck around. This is just the beginning.

A good credit score and paid bills had her convinced she was managing money well. She was not. She had nearly $60,000 in debt and, like so many of us, was never actually taught the language of money.

In the latest episode of Dr. Sev Talks Money, I sat down with Karlesha V. Hewitt, Esq. for a conversation that goes beyond the numbers.

We talked about what it really takes to face your financial reality, why shame keeps so many people stuck, the power of community accountability, and how financial struggle is almost never about ability; it is almost always about access to the right information.

This week's (5/26/2026) podcast episode featured legacy strategist Albert Butler CPA, MBA.

Albert shared why internal wholeness has to come before any financial strategy, how to shift from chasing money to chasing purpose, and what Legacy Over Ledgers looks like in real life, especially for someone navigating a major life transition like divorce or retirement.

We also discussed practical insights on budgeting, personal cash flow, scaling ourself before scaling a business, and building a financial legacy that goes beyond wealth accumulation. The message on scaling ourselves before scaling anything else made me pause and think about my journey. Because how do we scale everything without checking our capacity to manage the increase?

This Tuesday's podcast episode with Kira Hartley Klinger (Fabric Wars) was filled with simple reminders that you don't need a big budget to build something real. Just creativity, consistency, and the willingness to start where you are.

Kira consistently used free marketing strategies, social media, packaging inserts, niche communities, and storytelling, to turn one income stream into multiple opportunities including book sales, speaking engagements, and increased shop traffic. The tools were always there; she just used them differently than everyone else.

One tip that stuck with me: every touchpoint is a marketing moment. Kira landed a TV producer from a thank-you note tucked inside a customer's package.

Whether it's a package insert, an email signature, or a social media bio, every place you show up is an opportunity to introduce someone to what else you offer. Your next big opportunity may come from your most ordinary interaction.

No matter where you are in your journey, this is an episode worth listening to.

I believe everyone deserves financial transformation. I also believe that I don't have to be the one providing it for free.

For a long time, those two things felt like they were in conflict. Like charging for my expertise meant I was gatekeeping the very thing I wanted everyone to have access to.

But experience has taught me that guilt is not a business model. In fact, undercharging serves my discomfort with being seen as valuable. Ouch.

The most powerful thing I can do for the people I want to help is to build a sustainable practice that's here tomorrow.

We can be mission-driven AND charge our worth. Who knew? Those aren't opposites. That's just good stewardship.

If you're a financial professional or a service provider, I'd love your take. Let's talk about it.

A 750 credit score will not pay your rent if you lose your job.

But a lot of people are walking around thinking they’re financially “good” because of that number.

Creditworthiness is not the same as financial stability. And that’s a gap worth exploring.

Your credit score measures one thing: how well you manage debt. That's it!

It does not measure:
Whether you have savings
Whether you are living within your means
Whether you are building wealth
Whether you could survive a financial emergency

I have worked with people who had excellent credit scores and zero dollars in savings.

They looked great on paper and were one unexpected expense away from crisis.

Financial health is bigger than one number.

Your credit score is a tool. A useful one. But it is not the whole picture.

If you want a more honest snapshot, try this scorecard instead:
Do I have at least one month of expenses saved?
Am I spending less than I earn?
Am I making progress toward even one financial goal?

Because real financial confidence isn’t about how you look on paper. It’s about how prepared you are when life happens.

Did you catch our Women on the Move series? If not, you still can.

The full playlist is up and ready for you. Five real conversations with women navigating business, money, and everything in between. We got into their stories and mindset, how they are showing up and serving the people they work with, and the programs they are building to create lasting change.

Because financial progress is never just about the numbers. It is about the decisions, emotions, and experiences that shape how we show up with money.

A huge thank you to Ashlee Edwards, Dr. Amirra Condelee, LaQueshia Clemons, and Nia Adams for keeping it real and showing us what building, growing, serving, and creating with intention actually looks like.

Many of your team members are sitting in meetings right now thinking about money. Not the agenda. Money. A one-hour workshop can change that.

I watch a lot of gardening videos on YouTube. I enjoyed every single one, until I completed a three-month Master Gardener course.

Suddenly I could not unsee things. Practices I had accepted without question now had me asking, "But is that actually true?" The course didn't just teach me gardening. It changed the way I watch it. I went from passive viewer to active thinker.

That shift is exactly what financial education does for your team members.

Most people are not financially stuck because they are irresponsible. They are stuck because they have never had a moment of illumination. Once someone truly understands how a credit score is built, they can't un-know it. Once compound interest clicks, retirement contributions stop feeling like a sacrifice and start feeling like strategy.

That awareness doesn't just change behavior at home. It shows up everywhere they are.

Financially stressed team members are distracted team members. But those who have a framework, the language for what they are dealing with, and concrete next steps can set the worry down and be present.

That is what a financial wellness workshop delivers. Not a glossy seminar. An experience that creates a lasting shift where something clicks and stays clicked.

As an Accredited Financial Counselor® with a personal story of rebuilding my own finances from the ground up, I design workshops that meet team members where they are and walk them out with a clearer head and a plan they can use.

If you are an HR leader, a people operations professional, an organization or professional group looking to bring that kind of impact to your team, let's talk.
