If you usually file your own taxes on TurboTax or FreeTaxUSA this is the one year I’m telling you: don’t gamble with it.
Why? Because the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” created brand new deductions for tips and overtime starting with tax year 2025.
What’s different this year
➖You may be able to deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tip income (if you qualify).
➖You may be able to deduct qualified overtime (up to certain limits), but you have to calculate it the right way.
➖These deductions have income phaseouts (so not everyone qualifies).
Here’s the “DARN” that can mess up DIY filers:
For 2025, the IRS said W-2s and 1099s won’t be updated to clearly separate tip/overtime details like you’d expect. In plain language: your forms may not spoon feed you what you need, and you might have to prove and calculate amounts using paystubs/logs.
So when people self file, I’m seeing these common problems:
• Leaving money on the table (missing deductions)
• Claiming the deduction wrong (refund delays, IRS letters, amendments)
• Not having the right records to back up the numbers
If you earned tips or worked overtime in 2025…
This is the year to let a pro handle it so you can:
✔️ claim every dollar you qualify for
✔️ document it correctly
✔️ avoid delays and headaches

Does your CPA or Tax preparer Itemize for you?

I focus on Commonly Missed Deductions & Credits

Charitable Contributions: Don't forget small cash donations, supplies for fundraisers, or mileage (14 cents/mile) and parking for volunteer driving.

Student Loan Interest: You can deduct up to $2,500 in interest paid, even if someone else paid it.

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs): Contributions are deductible, and funds grow tax-free for medical expenses.

Educator Expenses: Teachers can deduct unreimbursed classroom supply costs.

Medical Expenses: Beyond doctor visits, you can deduct travel to appointments, durable medical equipment (crutches, scooters), and

long-term care premiums.

Retirement Contributions: Traditional IRA and 401(k) contributions reduce taxable income.
Residential Clean Energy Credit: For solar, wind, or geothermal installations.

State & Local Taxes (SALT): You can deduct either state income tax or sales tax (if itemizing), whichever is greater, up to the $10,000 cap.

Jury Duty Pay: If you give your jury duty pay to your employer (because they paid you your regular salary), you can deduct that amount.

You’re not late filing.

You’re scared to file.

Because every year… you owe.

So you wait.
Avoid it.
Hope it won’t be as bad.

But not filing doesn’t stop the balance.
It just adds penalties to the fear.

If you owe every year, it’s not bad luck.
It’s your setup.

And setup can be fixed.

🚨 Don’t wait until the last minute to file your taxes! ⏰📂

Here are a few reasons filing early can save you stress (and sometimes money):

✅ Avoid surprises 💸 – Filing early gives you time to plan if you owe, instead of scrambling at the deadline.
✅ Get your refund sooner 💰📬 – Why let the IRS hold your money longer than necessary?
✅ Reduce errors 🧾✏️ – Rushing leads to mistakes, missing forms, and amended returns.
✅ Protect against tax fraud 🔒🛡️ – Filing early helps prevent someone else from filing using your information.
✅ Less stress 😌✨ – No last-minute panic, long waits, or deadline pressure.

Tax season doesn’t have to be overwhelming — a little preparation now can make a big difference later! 📊🙌

Forgot to add a W-2 or some income to your taxes? Don’t stress… it happens more than you think! 😊

Here’s the simple fix:

1️⃣ You’ll need to amend your return.
That just means correcting the original tax return you already filed with the IRS.

2️⃣ The form used is called a 1040-X.
This form lets you add the missing W-2 or income and update your numbers the right way.

3️⃣ Amending doesn’t always mean trouble.
You might owe a little… or you might even get more money back.
The key is fixing it before the IRS fixes it for you.

4️⃣ Timing matters.
You usually have up to 3 years to amend a return, but the sooner you do it, the better.

5️⃣ Need help?
Motivated Under the sun Taxes helps you correct returns the stress-free way and keeps everything done properly so you can move forward with peace of mind.

Key 2026 Federal Tax Provisions for Cosmetologists
Tip Tax Break: Beginning with the taxes you file in 2026, you can deduct up to $25,000 in qualified tips from your federal taxable income. This applies to cosmetologists, estheticians, barbers, and other tipped professionals.
Standard Deduction: The standard deduction is increasing to $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married couples filing jointly.
Tax Brackets: The 2026 federal income tax rates (10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, and 37%) remain the same, but the income ranges for each bracket are adjusted for inflation. For example, the 10% bracket applies to single individuals earning up to $12,400, while the top 37% rate applies to incomes over $640,600 (single filers).
Self-Employment Tax: If you are self-employed, you will continue to pay the full 15.3% self-employment tax (covering Social Security and Medicare) on your net earnings. You can deduct one-half of this self-employment tax when calculating your adjusted gross income.
Permanent Tax Cuts: Many provisions from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 were made permanent by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025, which means many of the current tax laws and lower rates will continue into 2026.

📊 How U.S. Federal Income Tax Brackets Work (2026 Edition)
💼✨

🔹 1. The U.S. Uses a Progressive Tax System

This means your income is taxed in layers — not all at one rate.

You do NOT pay the highest bracket rate on your entire income.
You only pay that rate on the portion of income that falls into that bracket.

Let me say that again for the people in the back 👀
👉 Moving into a higher bracket does NOT mean all your money is taxed at that higher rate.

🔹 2. Federal Tax Brackets for 2026

📌 Single Filers

10% → $0 – $11,600
12% → $11,601 – $47,150
22% → $47,151 – $100,525
24% → $100,526 – $191,950
32% → $191,951 – $243,725
35% → $243,726 – $609,350
37% → $609,351+

📌 Married Filing Jointly

10% → $0 – $23,200
12% → $23,201 – $94,300
22% → $94,301 – $201,050
24% → $201,051 – $383,900
32% → $383,901 – $487,450
35% → $487,451 – $731,200
37% → $731,201+

🔹 3. Example (Very Important!)

If a single taxpayer earns $60,000, they do NOT pay 22% on the whole amount.

They pay:
✔ 10% on the first $11,600
✔ 12% on the next $35,550
✔ 22% only on the remaining $12,850

That’s how the progressive system works.

🔹 4. Why This Matters

Understanding tax brackets helps you:

✔ Plan your tax strategy
✔ Estimate refunds or balances due
✔ Make smart end-of-year deductions
✔ Decide when to contribute to a 401(k) or IRA
✔ Avoid panic when you hear “you’re in a higher bracket”

Taxes aren’t scary when you understand them.
And that’s what I’m here for 💼✨
