The board asks: "Why are we over budget?"
The operations team says: "We followed the process."
Both are right. Both are looking at different halves of the same problem.
I have spent my career in the gap between those two conversations. Finance says the numbers do not work. Operations says the process is sound. The real issue is that nobody mapped one to the other.
A Chief of Staff does not pick a side. They build the bridge. They translate the P&L into process changes the floor can execute. They translate operational bottlenecks into financial impact the board can act on.
Most organizations do not have a strategy problem. They have a translation problem.
