Super excited to launch a new series!

Join me as I elevate my love-hate relationship with accounting to the next level and prepare to take the CPA Exam. I started and stopped my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting three times, finally completing it in 2015. This means, besides IRS CE credits, I haven’t taken an accounting class in over 10 years. Since 2007, I have consistently worked in the accounting industry preparing taxes and various roles in non-profit with increasingly responsible accounting responsibilities, which are two tiny portions of the CPA exam. Well, the new tax discipline is exciting.

I’ve come to the point in my career where I need my CPA license. I purchased a review course a few years ago and sat for a few exams, but I barely studied and guess what? I failed. Obtaining my CPA license will allow me to do what I really want to do- teach accounting in higher education, perform non-profit audits, and represent taxpayers before the IRS in tax court. Someone tell Dick Wolf that is one Law & Order series he is missing, but I am up for the challenge.

This journey to the CPA license is non-traditional to say the least. I will be using a combination of my CPA review program, YouTube, and CE webinars to prepare. I will also use my education and comedy background (the stuff I did when I went through my “I hate accounting” phase) to create trivia questions to help keep myself on task, and maybe help some other non-traditional accountants along the way.

Doctor Jay’s CPA Review Trivia will drop on Thursdays at 12:15 PM, beginning September 3, 2026. The trivia is open to anyone currently studying, thinking about studying, or anyone who needs an excuse not to talk to their coworkers on their lunch break.

The 1st section I am scheduling is FAR in December, so trivia will focus on FAR until I pass. If you already completed FAR, congrats!
