You delivered the album but forgot the sales tax. That bill comes out of your margin if service and product are on one line. Put service on one line, albums and prints on another, then charge the destination rate for where your client receives it. Tacoma and WA studios, this protects your profit.

You will learn:

- Why clean bookkeeping matters more than the software you choose
- Situations where you might be missing big deductions, like mileage and large purchases
- How multiple states, employees and higher profits change your tax situation
- Why an S corporation election can be a game changer for profitable studios

If your studio is growing, you have team members, or your profit is consistently over six figures, this will help you understand the next steps so you are not leaving money on the table or taking on unnecessary risk.

One photography studio was unknowingly overpaying the IRS every single year. After cleaning up their books and restructuring the business, they now save more than 10,000 dollars annually in taxes.

In this video you will see:
- How messy or incomplete bookkeeping was hiding the studio's true profit
- What happened when their books were cleaned up and moved into QuickBooks Online
- Why a profit of around 150,000 dollars as a regular LLC meant paying self employment tax on 100 percent of the profit
- How self employment tax at 15.3 percent works and why it adds up fast
- Why this level of profit made them a strong candidate for an S corporation election
- How putting the owner on payroll with an 80,000 dollar reasonable salary meant about 70,000 dollars were no longer subject to self employment tax
- How that one change created tax savings of about 10,710 dollars every year, without increasing expenses or changing revenue

Over five years, that is almost 50,000 dollars back in their pocket, just from choosing the right structure and getting the bookkeeping in order.

If your photography studio is on track to make over 100,000 dollars this year, the IRS does not need to be your biggest vendor. A few smart moves before year end can make a big difference in your tax bill.

In this video you will learn:
- Why it can make sense to pull forward planned expenses like a new camera into this year
- How delaying certain client invoices until January can shift income to the next tax year
- Why logging every business mile matters if you drive to studios, shoot locations or stores
- How retirement contributions can give you a deduction and grow your net worth at the same time
- The basics of putting 10,000 dollars into retirement and getting a 10,000 dollar deduction
- Why your business structure matters when your profit goes over 100,000 dollars
- When it might make sense to look at an S corporation election for the next calendar year

If your studio is already profitable, small changes to your timing, record keeping and structure can help you keep more of what you earn.

The fastest way many photography studios grow is not by getting more followers. It is by niching down so that the right clients see your work and immediately think this is exactly for me.

In this video you will learn:
- Why becoming the go to photographer for one thing can grow your revenue faster than trying to shoot everything
- How niching down helps you stop saying yes to unprofitable work
- The difference between a generic niche like weddings and a specific niche like luxury brides or high end branding
- How to shape your marketing, pricing and services around a very specific client
- Why you may lose some clients at first but attract more of the right ones
- How shooting for the same type of client repeatedly actually makes you a better photographer

If you are ready to build a studio that attracts clients who value your work and are happy to pay for it, niching down is one of the most powerful moves you can make.

If you are paying a second shooter, editor or assistant, but you are not sure what an independent contractor actually is, you could be playing tax roulette with your photography studio.

In this video you will learn:
- What an independent contractor really is in practical terms
- The key difference between someone who runs their own business and someone who is acting like an employee
- Why contractors do not trigger payroll taxes, but employees do
- The payroll taxes you may owe for employees, including Social Security, Medicare, federal unemployment and state payroll taxes
- How the IRS can reclassify contractors as employees and hit you with back taxes, penalties and interest
- How to protect yourself using W 9 forms and 1099s for true contractors

If someone is working for you like an employee, they should be paid like an employee. Getting this right now can save you a lot of money and stress later.

Still running your photography studio under your Social Security number? It might be time to think about getting an EIN, or employer identification number.

In this video, you will learn:
- What an EIN actually is and who issues it
- When you are required to have an EIN
- When you can legally operate without one
- Why many studio owners choose an EIN even when it is not required
- The truth about whether an EIN lowers your taxes

Using an EIN can help you open business bank accounts, give W-9s to clients, and set up accounts without exposing your Social Security number on every form. It will not lower your taxes, but it can help protect your identity as your studio grows.
