🚨If you were assessed penalties and interest for filing your taxes late from Jan 20, 2020 to May 11, 2023 you may qualify for penalty abatement.

You need to file form 843 to request a refund as the IRS will not issue the refund automatically. You should have been given a 60 day grace period because the country was under declared disaster.

You have to write: “Protective Refund Claim Pursuant to Kwong Case” at the top of the form and mail it or fax it in (these are not electronically filed).
