🗣️PSA for TAX FILERS ….

•Before coming to social media🌐 to bash your tax preparer about “STEALING YOUR MONEY🫨”, “HIDDEN FEES🫣” or “OVER CHARGING🤔” please make sure you READ over your paperwork📄FIRST!!!

•Please make sure you ask ANY & ALL questions beforehand!!! Before you sign paperwork!✍🏽 Before you give them the okay to send it off!📤

Filers often struggle to comprehend the intricacies of bank fees, loan interest, preparer fees, software fees etc. It is the responsibility of YOUR PREPARER to make sure all of this, plus more, is explained to you!! It is OUR DUE DILIGENCE as a tax preparer🫡📜

•We understand you are eager to file😬and may not read the fine print at the time… that’s normal! But before putting a coat on someone whom it doesn’t fit, make sure you check the size!!💡(Read your paperwork) because you as a filer, ALSO have a due diligence to YOURSELF!!🫵🏽 To make sure your return is as accurate as it’s supposed to be!!✅
✔️look over paperwork
✔️make sure all personal info is accurate
✔️ask questions
✔️shoot your preparer a text
✔️give them a call

What are the requirements to qualify for the CTC in 2025?

One of the main requirements to qualify for this program is the income limit:

1. For married taxpayers who file a joint return, the maximum limit will be $400,000.

2. For those people or heads of household who file individually, it will be $200,000.

As we have said before, the amount of the child credit is $2,000 of which only $1,700 can be refunded. What does this mean? If your tax bill is less than this amount, you will be able to receive the difference as a refund in your account.

Another essential requirement is to have a child under 17 years of age (at the end of the fiscal year), and who is related to you in some way, it can be a biological child, adopted child, brother, stepbrother or descendants of any of them.

The child must have lived with you for more than half of the year in the tax year, meaning he or she must have been living where you have been living, and have provided more than half of the child’s support (this means that if you are delinquent in paying child support, you will not be eligible for this payment).

Other requirements are that the child be a U.S. citizen or resident alien, and have a valid social security number issued before the tax return due date.

Finally, the child cannot have filed a tax return on his or her own (unless it is to claim a refund of taxes withheld).

For anyone that is confused

🚨 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐖𝟒

Step 1: Personal information
**⁉️disclaimer having dependents does not automatically qualify you for head of household filing status. Consult with your tax professional to determine your filing status if unknown or unsure.

Step 2: Complete only if you work multiple jobs.✌🏾

Step 3: If your annual is income is less than $200,000 ($400,000 if married filing joint) multiply number of qualifying children under 17 by $2,000👩🏿‍⚖️

Ex: 1 dependent =$2,000
Ex: 2 dependents = $4,000
Ex: 3 dependents = $6000
& so forth.

Depending on yearly income I higly suggest my clients exceeding the AGI limits for their filing status to leave this at $0 or no higher than $2,000.

Step 3 Other Dependents: is to be used for children ages 17-24 if they are in school or disabled.

Step 4: Although its optional this is very crucial if you exceed the AGI limits for your filing status each tax year.

Line 4C is where additional monies can be withheld from each paycheck. I advise my clients to select an amount thats comfortable for them each pay period. (ex: $25 , $50, $75 etc)

SN: over $50K I highly suggest $100+ for extra withholding line 4C

I also advise to increase the amounts each time a taxpayer gets raise or does an excessive amount of overtime.

Hope this helps, I always advise to revisit this form yearly or each time your pay increases.

What you need to know about the Child Tax Credit in 2025
(Tax Year 2024)

-The Child Tax Credit (CTC) helps reduce federal income tax for families with children under 17 at the end of the tax year, providing financial relief for child-related expenses.

-The CTC is worth up to $2,000 per child for the 2024 tax year. The refundable portion of the CTC, called the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), increased to $1,700 in the 2024 tax year.

-The CTC operates as a partially refundable tax credit, not as monthly payments as in some prior years.

-To qualify for the CTC, your child must be under 17 at the end of the tax year, live with you for more than half the year, be your dependent child, and meet citizenship requirements.

-The CTC starts phasing out at a MAGI of over $200,000 for single filers and $400,000 for joint filers, reducing by $50 per $1,000 above these limits.

-The ACTC is a refundable portion of the CTC for those whose CTC exceeds their tax, with a refund calculated as 15% of earned income over $2,500, up to $1,700.

-To claim the CTC, gather necessary documentation and fill out Form 8812, Credits for Qualifying Children and Other Dependents, and the relevant line on Form 1040. Work with a Tax Pro to ensure you get the full credit.

The difference between a tax credit and tax deduction

A tax credit directly reduces the amount of taxes you owe, dollar for dollar. For example, if you owe $1,000 in taxes and have a $200 tax credit, you’ll owe $800.

A tax deduction reduces your taxable income, which can lower the amount of tax you owe. For instance, if you have a $1,000 deduction and are in the 20% tax bracket, your tax bill would be reduced by $200 (20% of $1,000).
