"Can I take value off the table without giving up control of my practice?"

It's one of the most common questions we hear, and one of the least often asked out loud. Ask about valuation and you worry you'll get sold to. Ask about succession and you worry it looks like you're checking out. So, the question stays in your head, and another year goes by.

At OneSeven, we've built a room where advisors can ask it. You've invested time, expertise, and a couple of decades of your life into this practice. Understanding what it's worth, and what your options are, shouldn't require raising your hand at a conference.

No pitch. Just the honest math, starting here: https://onesevenadvisor.com/download-our-free-reports/the-20x-multiple-reality

Here's the question advisors ask most often, usually right before deciding not to ask anything at all:
If I find out what my practice is worth, am I opening the door to a sales process?

No. And the assumption that it does is exactly why so few advisors know their number.
The video below takes 15 seconds to explain what the conversation actually is. What drives your value, what options exist in today's market, and why nothing you share leaves the room.

Knowing your number doesn't obligate you to do anything with it. Not knowing it costs you every time you make a decision without it.

You didn't build your practice in a straight line.

You built it through the market drops you talked clients through, the referrals that took nine years to arrive, and the Sundays nobody billed for. So when the topic of monetizing comes up, it rarely feels like a financial question. It feels personal.

Here's what we've noticed: most advisors don't avoid the conversation because they've decided against it. They avoid it because they only know two options (keep everything, or sell everything) and neither one sounds like what they actually want.

There's more room in the middle than the industry lets on. Value, liquidity, and continuity aren't a single lever you pull once.

Start with the math, not the meeting. Our report The 20x Multiple Reality breaks down what actually drives an RIA's valuation and why the range is so wide: https://onesevenadvisor.com/download-our-free-reports/the-20x-multiple-reality

What if your advisory firm could serve more clients, improve its marketing, and increase its capacity—without increasing payroll?

Artificial intelligence is changing the growth equation for financial advisors. It isn’t replacing the human relationships at the center of great advice. It’s reducing the repetitive work that takes advisors away from them.

In his latest blog, Adam Blumenthal explores how AI can help advisors:
-Create and repurpose content more efficiently
-Streamline meeting preparation
-Capture notes and action items
-Draft clearer client communications
-Automate routine touchpoints
-Strengthen documentation and compliance workflows
-Compete with larger firms without adding headcount

The competitive advantage isn’t AI alone—it’s the time AI gives back to advisors.

Ask an advisor what their practice is worth and you'll almost always hear the same number: about 3x EBITDA.

Where did that come from? A conference hallway. A peer. Something someone said a decade ago and repeated until it sounded like a market rate.

It isn't one. Valuation ranges are wide because they're driven by things a single multiple can't capture: your growth rate, how much of your revenue recurs, the age mix of your client base, whether a succession plan exists on paper, and the platform sitting behind you.

Two practices with identical EBITDA can land in very different places on that range.

What if the infrastructure of your practice didn't distract from the practice itself?

Most advisors spend their week answering questions that have nothing to do with their clients. Compliance questions. Tech stack decisions. Operational friction that pulls you away from the work you actually built this for.

At OneSeven, we handle the operational complexity so you can handle your clients. Full ownership of your brand and your client relationships, paired with the support structure that lets you focus on what matters, without the noise.

Ready to see what that looks like for your practice? Take the quiz and find out how to run your book of business on your terms.

The biggest barrier to growth may not be a lack of marketing—it may be doing the wrong marketing.

Today’s prospects research advisors long before scheduling a meeting. They visit websites, review LinkedIn profiles, read online reviews, and compare firms. Outdated or inconsistent marketing can make even an exceptional advisory firm easy to overlook.

In his latest blog, Adam Blumenthal identifies 10 common mistakes financial advisors still make, including:
-Trying to appeal to everyone
-Treating a website like an online brochure
-Creating content inconsistently
-Avoiding video
-Focusing every conversation on investments
-Overlooking existing clients
-Underestimating LinkedIn
-Resisting technology and AI
-Measuring the wrong metrics
-Treating marketing as an expense

The solution isn’t simply doing more marketing. It’s building a focused, measurable system that consistently educates prospects and earns their trust.
