Money isn’t abstract.
It’s stored time, effort, and decision-making power.

For fund managers, the real risk isn’t taxes alone.
It’s losing control because the financial infrastructure isn’t built to support scale.

Strong funds don’t rely on reactive cleanup.
They rely on:
✅ clear, timely reporting
✅ disciplined financial governance
✅ structures that align capital with long-term intent

Most CPAs focus on filing what already happened.
I work with fund managers as a strategic partner, helping ensure the numbers, reporting, and systems support confident decision-making year-round.

“Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” doesn’t mean paying more than required.

The tax code contains one rule that says you must pay tax, and thousands that say unless you do this, structure that, or qualify here.

Understanding that difference is the foundation of ethical, legal tax planning.

Most accountants report numbers.
I help fund managers understand what’s actually due and what isn’t.

Many fund managers assume ownership percentage determines tax results.
It doesn’t.

Tax allocations are driven by how the deal is structured, not just how equity is split. When depreciation and allocations are designed intentionally, a smaller economic interest can receive an outsized tax benefit, completely within the rules.

The key is timing.
Once tax season hits, most of these decisions are already locked.

A high close rate, isn't always a good thing.

Yet another important lesson for me as an entrepreneur!

I used to pride myself on a very high close rate but, in reality, I wasn't putting myself out there enough.

Since then I've more than doubled our client base. Even if my close rate took a hit, thats the risk I needed to take to grow our practice.

A Real Estate Fund, Syndication and Partnership are essentially the same thing - from a tax perspective. So we've focused our accountancy on being the very best at serving this industry.

The biggest learning for me as an entrepreneur, was to let go of the things that someone else can do BETTER than me.

A tough lesson to learn, and hard to let go, but it's been a game-changer for our business and our clients.

I saved this client $300,000 in taxes with one adjustment.

The right CPA doesn't just pay for themselves, they deliver a return. Needless to say this client was VERY satisfied.

Who's helping you ensure that your fund docs are in alignment with your goals?

Have you ever heard the phrase "when you hire people, you hire their problems too"?

This was something my Dad used to say all the time. And for a while, I believed him.

As I started building my firm I found myself avoiding hiring because of this mentality I had learned over time as a child.

But now, I'm seeing that this mindset will only limit my growth.

The truth is that my vision for Stonehan isn't something I can build on my own, or even with a small team. We've expanding by hiring over the last year and it's been incredible to see the quality of the incredible talent and the value they've brought to our clients.

People like to complain about the fact that Donald Trump doesn't pay taxes, as if he's breaking the rules somehow.

As a CPA, I'm here to tell you that he's not breaking any rules. He's being rewarded for doing things that the tax code - and the government - want people to do.

I'm passioned about helping my clients use the tax code to their advantage, the same way Donald Tump has. The rules are there, you just need a professional that knows how to use them!
