Key Dates for the 2026 Filing Season (for 2025 Taxes):

January 26, 2026: IRS begins accepting 2025 tax returns.

April 15, 2026: Deadline to file 2025 returns, pay taxes due, or request an extension.

Extensions: An extension grants more time to file, not more time to pay; penalties and interest apply to taxes paid after April 15.

October 15, 2026: Deadline to file an extended 2025 tax return.

Important Notes:
Estimated Taxes: Payments for Q4 2025 are due January 15, 2026, and Q1 2026 are due April 15, 2026.

State Taxes: California, for example, also follows the April 15, 2026, deadline but grants an automatic extension to October 15 to file, though payment is still due in April.

A little Tax Update

Paper Checks Are on the Way Out

The IRS is phasing out most paper refund checks after Sept. 30, 2025, as part of a broader transition to electronic transactions. The change applies to 2025 tax returns filed in 2026. Taxpayers who do not provide direct deposit information may experience refund delays and receive an IRS request to update banking details within 30 days. Fourth quarter estimated payments are due Jan. 15, 2026. Taxpayers can choose from several electronic payment options, including IRS Direct Pay, IRS Online Account payments, EFTPS and electronic funds withdrawal when filing electronically. Debit card, credit card and digital wallet payments are also available, though fees may apply. Although electronic payments are strongly encouraged, the IRS will still accept paper checks.

If you filed an extension for 2025 for your 1040 tax return and your S Corp. tax return it is due on October 15, 2025.

When you filed your extension in April it only gave you the extension to file but not to pay. You will still have interest on what you would have owed from April 15th to now. The IRS interest is daily.

Attention LLC owners! If your LLC was formed before January 1, 2024, did you know you must file a BOI (Beneficial Ownership Information) report by January 1, 2025?

For those who filed their LLC in 2024, you have 90 days from your filing date to submit the report.

From the BOI website
The penalties for failing to file a Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) report or filing it late can be significant:

Civil penalties
A fine of up to $591 per day for each day the report is late. This penalty can quickly accumulate.

Criminal penalties
Up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 for willfully failing to file, submitting false information, or failing to correct or update previously reported information.

Who is affected
Penalties can apply to both the company and its beneficial owners, depending on the violation.

The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) was enacted in 2021 to help the U.S. government prevent money laundering, tax evasion, and other illicit activities. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) is responsible for collecting and disclosing BOI information.

To avoid penalties, entities can:
Determine if they are subject to the BOI rule

Stay informed of regulatory changes and deadlines

Ensure beneficial ownership information is accurate and up to date

Submit the BOI report within the specified timeframe

If you are unsure about your compliance requirements, you can seek legal counsel or guidance from regulatory authorities.

Let’s not wait to the last minute reach out and get compliant! We will be more than happy to assist you for a small fee.

Thanks,
