April 15 is the filing deadline — not the deadline to be ready.

If your tax documents are still trickling in, you don’t have to panic. You can file an extension, and here’s what that actually means:

👉 It’s not a red flag. It actually helps you avoid late filing penalties.

👉 You don’t have to give the IRS a reason. File Form 4868 and you automatically get it. (e-file it so you have a confirmation)

⚠️ One thing people get wrong: an extension moves your filing date, not your payment date. You still owe by April 15 — skip that and you’re looking at late payment penalties + interest.

Know someone who’s stressing about taxes right now? Send this their way. 👇

And if you have questions about whether an extension makes sense for your situation — drop them below or reach out directly.

Here's what I personally do to lower my tax bill:

→ Max out my pre-tax retirement contributions
→ Pay my safe harbor estimated tax payments on time to avoid penalties + interest
→ Keep clean + organized books so I know where I'm making and spending my money
→ Work with a professional (aka myself) who understands what deductions + credits apply to a taxpayer like me

I walk my clients through "boring" tax plans every day, but there's nothing boring about tax savings 💸

If you own a business, it's not as simple as just filing a "business" tax return.

The tax form(s) you need to file depend on how your business is set up and taxed.

Here's a general breakdown:
Sole Proprietor → Form 1040 + Schedule C
Single-Member LLC → Form 1040 + Schedule C*
Multi-Member LLC → Form 1065 + Schedule K-1*
Partnership → Form 1065 + Schedule K-1*
S Corporation → Form 1120S + Schedule K-1
C Corporation → Form 1120
*Unless you elected to be taxed as an S corporation, then you need to file Form 1120-S and Schedule K-1

If you still aren't sure which tax form you're supposed to file, let me help

An S-Corp could be a game-changer... or it could be the world's biggest administrative headache 🙃

It all depends...

A lot of tax professionals will say you should elect to be taxed as an S corporation at a certain level of profit, and that is *one* part of the equation.

But there are some other factors you'll want to consider before you make any decisions:

If you're curious about being taxed as an S-Corp, you need to consider:

→ Compliance (like additional tax filings + payroll)

→ Whether your revenue supports paying yourself a reasonable salary

→ If the tax savings outweigh the additional costs of compliance

I can run the numbers on a proper cost analysis for your business and see whether an S election is your best move.

Calling all S-Corps + Partnerships... ☎️

Your tax returns are due on March 16th this year! 📆

Not ready to file yet??

That's okay, filing an extension is normal, very easy (I can help), and buys you the extra time you need to get your life together.

If you're waiting to file because your books aren't ready, you know who to call😁

Paper refund checks are officially a thing of the past!

According to the IRS, they'll send refunds to taxpayers via direct deposit or other secure electronic methods.

So what does this mean when you file your tax return this year? You'll want to make sure to include your bank or digital deposit info if you're expecting a refund.

For taxpayers who are unable to use direct deposit, the IRS is working on alternative options like prepaid debit cards or digital wallets.

While this might seem like a huge change, just know that 93% of refunds issued during the 2025 filing season were via direct deposit, so this won't affect most of you. 💸

When your accountant tells you to set aside money for estimated taxes, here's what they actually want you to do:

Calculate a portion of your net profit to set aside, put it somewhere you won't accidentally spend it, and don't forget to make your quarterly payments.

I know so many small business owners stress about estimated taxes, but it doesn't have to be that way!

We provide all of our clients with estimated tax vouchers showing *exactly* how much to pay to avoid costly penalties and stress.
