IRS Announces Mid-Year Mileage Rate Increase

The IRS has announced a mid-year increase to the standard mileage rates, effective July 1, 2026.

Business mileage: 76¢ per mile (up from 72.5¢)
Medical & moving mileage: 23.5¢ per mile (up from 20.5¢)
Charitable mileage remains 14¢ per mile

The increase is due to rising fuel costs and applies only to mileage incurred on or after July 1, 2026.

What this means for business owners

If you drive for business, tracking your mileage by date is now more important than ever.

A single "I drove 12,000 business miles this year" number at tax time is no longer enough. Because two different IRS rates apply during 2026, your mileage log should show:

the date of each trip,
the business purpose,
the starting and ending locations, and
the number of miles driven.

Good records protect your deduction and allow us to apply the correct IRS rate.

If you haven't been keeping a mileage log, now is a great time to start.

Just a friendly reminder that the tax deadline is April 15, just 2 days away. If your taxes aren’t done or you’re not presently waiting on them from your Accountant or Bookkeeper to sign off and submit them, now’s probably a good time to file an extension. 🧐

*Important Note: Filing an extension does not mean you don’t have to pay. Payment is due on 4/15 - no matter what.

Good luck! 🤞🏼🤓

I recently got back from something different.
Not another tax seminar. Not a “how-to-file-faster” workshop.

A leadership retreat for accountants and bookkeepers—focused on rethinking what our work is actually for.

If you're a client of mine, you already know we’re not just “behind-the-scenes number people.” We ask questions like:

•What are your goals?
•Who do you want to employ?
•Where are you vulnerable?
•What future are you actually building?
.. and we use your numbers to work backwards into every one of those answers.

That—not compliance alone—is where the profession is headed.

Sure, I’ll always make sure your books are clean and your returns are filed on time. But what matters most is that you understand your data, feel supported in your decisions, and have the clarity to move forward all year long.

2026 is going to bring more of that.

More strategy. More proactive guidance. More of what really matters.

Stay tuned. I’m excited to share what’s coming next. 💫

🌀Every Season of Business has its Value

We talk endlessly about the ‘busy’ season in small businesses and accounting — but what if that’s only one quarter of the cycle?
The ebb and flow of business cycles can follow the same rhythm as nature:

🌱 Spring – Preparation & Seeding
☀️ Summer – Growth & Maintenance
🍂 Autumn – Harvest, Assessment and Review
❄️ Winter – Reflection, Renewal & Planning

The companies and firms that burn out live in a perpetual summer — always producing, never resting.
The ones that thrive honor the rhythm: plan, grow, harvest, rest.
Like good soil, a business needs recovery time to stay fertile.
Without pause, you lose perspective. With rhythm, you gain sustainability — and clarity about what truly creates value.
Maybe the real future of business isn’t just maximizing production, automation or AI.
Maybe it’s returning to a seasonal mindset — one that keeps people, not profits and deadlines, at the center.

What season is your business in right now, and how can you honor the rhythm of every cycle? 🌿🌞🍁🍂❄️🔄
