People often ask how an accountant ends up working only with jewelers, and the answer is that I did not end up here. I started here. 💎

I grew up in the jewelry industry with two parents who were jewelers, and for most of my life I assumed I would be one too. I was.

I am a Graduate Gemologist from GIA, a classically trained bench jeweler from Revere Academy in San Francisco with additional work through New Approach School, and even Wildacres in NC. I was a stone carver who studied under Master Hans Ulrich Pauly in Idar-Oberstein, Germany for a year.

I worked in sales at the counter and as a designer, a bench jeweler, and an appraiser. I worked for other designers in addition to the family business, and I always kept the books on the side. ✨

That second practice started at home. My grandmother kept the books for my father’s business, and I sat with her while she did it for the first 2 decades of my life.

My father was an intentional jeweler whose work was built around wowing his clients, and he always did, because my grandmother was the organizational mind that made his creative life possible.

He was the artist and she was the operator, and watching them work together is how I learned what a jewelry business actually requires to function. 🛠️

The accounting education itself came later, through my degree, my years in corporate accounting at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, and the long stretch of self-directed work and study that followed.

Accounting for Jewelers exists because I was already doing both jobs.

That is why I understand jewelers the way I do, and it is why this is the only industry my firm will ever serve. My first language is jewelry. 💛

Last-minute seats. Real talk about your numbers.
📍I’m speaking THIS Saturday in Birmingham at the Jewelers of America Learning Workshop with Alabama Jewelry Association, and if you’re a jeweler in the Southeast, this one’s for you.

📆My session: How to Balance Your Business. 2:15 PM, April 25.
We’re covering what actually keeps jewelry businesses from staying profitable: cash flow blind spots, inventory that doesn’t talk to your books, sales tax gaps, and the accounting habits that protect you when the market gets volatile. Not theory. Practical tools you can use Monday morning.
If you’ve been meaning to get your financial house in order and haven’t found someone who understands the bench AND the balance sheet, Saturday is your shot.
This isn’t a webinar. It’s a room. And rooms are where things change.

In honor of my beloved guard dog Waylin the Boerboel’s birthday this month , I answered another FAQ and made a cute (in my opinion, of course) free download as a quick reference guide.

It explains in simple terms who and what qualifies.

Whether you have a pet now or are like me and still getting over your last one, this is a good save for when you have a pet and want to consider ways to not over pay your taxes.

Link in bio or comment Puppers below to get it in your DM. Also, I know it’s hard to choose, but what’s the name of the best fur friend you’ve ever known?
