Now that nostalgia for the 1990s (thanks to Hulu) is running high, and in honor of International Women's Month, I'm pulling out this picture of my wonderful colleagues at Emory. My boss, Dot Sparer (right of me below), was quirky, fun, and the most supportive person I knew. This picture and the engraved plate were her idea. She loved calling us the "Dream Team." She was always at the ready with a complimentary note and encouraged all sorts of professional growth.

It wasn't until after her death did I learn her origin story. She was born to Jewish parents in N**i Germany. Her family fled to England then to the United States when she was a young child. I only knew her as positive, nearly delusional at times, optimist. She never alluded to her past. I believe she chose to be a shining light every day of her life.

Stacey (left), Rachel (end) and I may have complained about her exuberance at times, but we always knew she had our best interests at heart. Dot was one of a kind.

📣 INTERN SPOTLIGHT 📣
Matthew Pappalardo, a finance major at Endicott College spent his summer at the practice learning the ins and outs of special needs financial planning. Being a sole practitioner, I found it was great to have a second set of eyes, and an alternative perspective to consider when reviewing client cases. In return, Matt sat in on meetings, streamlined on-boarding systems, and straightened out backoffice paperwork. Then there was a bit of scanning involved... OK, maybe it was a lot of scanning...

I originally was reluctant to take on an intern; however, as Matt said in his interview, "Maybe we can learn from each other." I believe that goal was achieved! Thank you for bringing your positive attitude and eagerness to learn each day. And, best of luck as you take on your Junior year! Go Gulls!

As we approach our golden years, take time to plan for who and how to pay for caregiving services. Long Term Care insurance can pay a significant role in the process. Caregiving is not free.

A new documentary on PBS shows what it's like to care for adult family members and recounts the history of caregiving policy in the U.S., revealing why those caring for family are often on their own.

This is great news for many of my clients who have been negatively impacted by WEP/GPO laws. This repeal will allow retirees with two career tracks over their work lives to have access to benefits they contributed to over the years. Teachers, paraprofessionals, and municipal employees may see their retirement futures improve. If you wonder how this legislative change may impact your retirement, reach out!

🚨 Small Biz Alert 🚨 Gordon Pan, director at The Movement Strength and Conditioning, showed me around his new facility off of Broadway in Haverhill. He specializes working with young athletes who are susceptible to overuse injuries due to their still growing bodies. As an athletic trainer, Gordon brings a medical perspective to his strength and conditioning programs, and customizes programs to the students’ goals. But, most importantly, he is a super great guy to work with! Give him a call ☎️ 978-994-2786

😎🎯📣"Advisors Changing the Outcome for Boston Businesses" -EPI Greater Boston Launch Event, Sept. 28, 2023, University of Massachusetts Club, Boston
🎙Featuring Scott Snider, President of the Exit Planning Institute (EPI)

It was great to be back in Boston meeting in person with other CEPAs and hear Scott Snider speak! As the sun set across the city, networking was the name of the game. 🌆

Scott spoke of how exit planning is simply good business strategy. With 80% of business owners wealth wrapped up in their businesses, putting a plan into place exponentially improves exit outcomes. There’s no question the need for quality exit planning exists; how to start the conversation depends on owner’s varied characteristics, priorities, and values advisors need to consider in order to have productive conversations.

After his presentation, I spoke to Scott and he mentioned how EPI plans to offer case study workshops, which will be great opportunities to share strategies to benefit business owners. He also reiterated that the Institute’s resources are always available to me. Scott was very excited about how impactful the EPI Greater Boston Chapter will be on regional businesses.

📌Next meeting is set for October 26. Stay tuned for updates!

$84 trillion is on the Table

The Great Wealth Transfer is on the horizon, with a staggering $84 trillion shifting from Baby Boomers to Gen X and Millennials. 🌍💸

This monumental transfer will reshape the financial landscape and this knowledge should impact how we strategize with our clients.

For Gen X, this transition offers immense opportunities and challenges. They will be entrusted with managing significant wealth, a responsibility some of our clients may be new to. With a different set of risks and priorities, it's crucial to educate our clients on navigating this wealth transfer effectively.

🔑 Key Takeaways:

1️⃣ Educate and Communicate: Guide Gen X clients on investment principles, risk management, and tax implications. Effective communication with parents or benefactors is paramount to understanding their wealth picture.

2️⃣ Adaptability is Key: Financial Advisors must adapt to cater to the unique goals and situations of Gen X. Tailored strategies are essential to meet the evolving needs of this new wave of inheritors.

3️⃣ Long-Term Vision: Take a forward-thinking approach to wealth management. Encourage Gen Xers to focus on securing their own financial futures while honoring the legacy and intentions of the wealth transfer.

Prepare your clients for this wealth shake-up and empower them to make informed decisions.

Together, we can navigate this financial transformation and ensure a prosperous future for Gen X. 🌟💼
