$100 million dollars in scholarship money goes unclaimed every year. The primary reason...Lack of Applicants.
That should get every parent’s attention.
Many families assume scholarships are only for students with financial need.
That is not true.
Many awards are based on:
• Merit
• Leadership
• Service
• Intended major
• Career goals
• Community involvement
• Athletics
• Arts
• Faith-based service
• Student character
For private school families, this matters.
Your student may have academic rigor, leadership, service hours, strong teacher relationships, and a compelling story.
But if those strengths are not organized and positioned well, opportunities get missed.
Scholarship money does not always go to the student with the highest GPA, as realized at local award ceremonies.
It often goes to the student who applies with the right fit, the right timing, and the right message.
Do not assume your household income eliminates your student from scholarship opportunities.
Do not assume the school counselor will find every award. They wear way too many hats.
Do not assume the deadline has passed.
A smart scholarship strategy starts with clarity.
At Romer Scholars, I help families find better-fit scholarship opportunities and build a plan to reduce college costs with more confidence.

I need to say something that might make a few families uncomfortable.

I do not believe affluent families should automatically pay full price for college.

Not because you cannot afford it.

Because affording it and overpaying for it are not the same thing.

I work with successful families who have done everything right. They have built strong careers. They have saved. They have invested. They have raised accelerated, high-achieving students.

And then 4 years of college comes along and quietly asks you to write $80,000 to $95,000 checks per year.

Your family may assume, “We make too much money. We will not qualify for anything.”

That belief costs you, BIG.

Scholarships are not just for low-income families.
Merit aid is not just for perfect students.
Private scholarships are not just for students with tragic stories.
Financial aid strategy is not just for families who are struggling.

Bottom line, college is a business.

And if you walk into that business without a strategy, you will pay more than you need to.

I help families effectively position their student, their applications, their scholarships, and their financial aid strategy so they are not leaving money on the table.

Because your money you save on college is not small.

Your money can stay invested.
Your money can compound.
Your money can protect your retirement.
Your money can help launch your student without debt.
Your money can remain part of your family’s long-term financial plan.

A $20,000 scholarship is not just $20,000 saved.

It may be $20,000 that stays in your portfolio, keeps growing, and continues working for your family for years.

That is why I care so much about this work.

I am not here to help families “hunt for a few random scholarships.”

I am here to help smart families stop assuming full price is inevitable.

I am here to teach positioning and strategy.

If you have a high-achieving student and you want a smarter college funding strategy, this is the conversation worth having.

Parents, you are not too late.

If your student has not started applying for scholarships yet, take a breath.

The window has not closed.

Scholarships are available year-round.

Summer.
Fall.
Winter.
Spring.

Many affluent families assume they will not qualify because of income.

That is not always true.

Not every scholarship is need-based.

Many awards focus on:
• Merit
• Leadership
• Service
• Athletics
• Academic interests
• Career goals
• Community involvement
• Faith-based service
• Major selection
• Student character

Your student’s private school experience, academic rigor, leadership, and service work should be part of the strategy.

The mistake is waiting.

The second mistake is applying to random scholarships without a system.

Your student needs:
• A strong resume
• A scholarship tracker
• A clear student profile
• A reusable essay bank
• A weekly application rhythm
• A strategy for local, institutional, private, and major-specific awards.

You are not behind.

You need a better plan.
