We are thrilled to announce the launch of BeRe Stewardship’s Justice-Impacted Advisory Committee and the addition of our Criminal Justice Research Fellow!

This milestone represents an important step in ensuring that lived experience, expertise, and research continue to shape the work we do. We are honored to welcome our inaugural Justice-Impacted Advisory Committee members: Tyren Slowe, Misty Solorio, and Temesia Greene.

We are also excited to welcome Jeffrey Vazquez as our Criminal Justice Research Fellow, who will support our ongoing research efforts and help strengthen the impact of our justice-informed financial literacy curriculum.

Throughout the remainder of July, we’ll be sharing more about each of their backgrounds, experiences, and the unique perspectives they bring to BeRe Stewardship’s mission.

We are grateful for their willingness to serve as contributors in our continued commitment to teaching the stewardship of time, resources, and abilities to currently and formerly incarcerated individuals.

BeRe Stewardship had a wonderful time attending today’s Greater Cleveland Reentry Coalition Meeting.

The room was filled with community stakeholders, local leaders, practitioners, and justice-impacted individuals united around a shared mission: building a more just, inclusive, and supportive reentry ecosystem across Greater Cleveland.

A special thank you to the Cuyahoga County Office of a Reentry for creating a space where meaningful conversations, collaboration, and connection can happen. We are grateful to be part of a growing network of organizations and individuals committed to supporting justice-impacted individuals and strengthening our communities.

We look forward to continuing these important conversations and working alongside others who share this mission.

At the Coalition for Juvenile Justice Conference, we were reminded of a powerful quote from Frederick Douglass:

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”

Building strong children requires more than intention—it requires access to quality education and meaningful prevention efforts that reduce involvement in the legal system before it begins.

Across plenaries and breakout sessions, leaders from State Advisory Groups (SAGs), advocates, and practitioners highlighted what’s working across the country: sustained investments in education, community-based programming, and diversion strategies that keep young people out of the juvenile justice system and connected to opportunity.

These are not abstract ideas—they are proven approaches that reduce system involvement and strengthen communities when we choose to fund and prioritize them.

The question is no longer whether we know what works; it’s whether we are willing to invest in it. 🌱

At the Coalition for Juvenile Justice Conference today, we were reminded how powerful it is to be in a room full of people committed to reimagining youth justice across the country 🙌

From plenaries to breakout sessions, we heard about impactful work happening nationwide and the real difference it is making in young people’s lives.

A key takeaway was the importance of State Advisory Groups (SAGs). These governor appointed bodies exist in every state and territory receiving funding under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), helping guide funding, ensure compliance, and strengthen prevention efforts.

Grateful to the Coalition for Juvenile Justice team and Executive Director Melissa Milchman for bringing together SAGs, youth, advocates, and practitioners to learn and move this work forward together 💡

BeRe Stewardship is in the building at the Coalition for Juvenile Justice Annual Conference! 📍

We are kicking off the first networking evening and are grateful to be in community with advocates, practitioners, policymakers, and leaders with lived experience from across the country. This year’s focus on the power of partnerships and collective action to advance youth justice strongly aligns with our work.

From prevention to reentry, the conversations ahead are centered on strengthening systems of care and expanding opportunities for young people and families. At BeRe, we are especially excited to continue elevating financial literacy and economic opportunity as essential components of successful reentry and long-term stability.

Thank you to the Coalition for Juvenile Justice for convening such a thoughtful and committed community 🤝 We are looking forward to a few impactful days of learning, collaboration, and action.
