Just finished my first exam for Principles of Accounting II and I got a 86.01% grade! I seriously thought I was going to get a failing grade since I only had a week to prepare but I surprised myself. It was very difficult but thank God I was able to use the eBook during it. This course is 5 weeks long so there's a test each week and its a lot to take in at once. I will continue to push through the challenge. I messaged my wife as soon as I finished and she said," Good Job love, I'm so proud of you. I love you." Thank you for the love and support from my wife Breanna Bright 😘

I hope everyone has a great start to their week!

Stay Blessed and always remember!

The job isn't done till the books are. Having accurate monthly bookkeeping will ensure it's done!

Most business owners, especially in HVAC and plumbing, think "done" means the work is finished. But if you haven't tracked what it actually cost you, you don't know if "done" means profit or loss.

Every job has three things that need to be tracked: labor, materials, and overhead, and if even one of them slips through the cracks, you won't know if that job actually made you money:

✅ Labor: did you account for the actual hours it took, not just what you bid?
✅ Materials: every part, fitting, and supply tracked back to that specific job?
✅ Overhead: gas, truck wear, tools, insurance, the costs that don't show up on an invoice but still eat into your margin?

Without tracking these per job, even the best contractors end up guessing instead of knowing.

Bookkeeping isn't the boring part after the real work. It's how you find out if the real work is actually paying off.

I’m officially starting my first accounting class that will prepare me to become a Certified Public Accountant. I’m only taking one community college class this summer at Brightpoint since I missed the deadline to do it at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). I did complete Principles of Accounting I at VCU a few years ago.

I do have great news, though: I was accepted into the post-baccalaureate program in accounting at VCU, and I’ll be going full-time in the fall. This summer class will prepare me for when I start at VCU. I wasn’t able to pursue the master’s program in accounting since I didn’t have the prerequisites, and it wasn’t the right program for me anyway. The post-bacc sets me up on the right path to becoming a CPA.

I’m very excited to pursue this career in accounting and to use it to complement my bookkeeping business, Be Bright Bookkeeping LLC.

Thank you, everyone, for your support. I look forward to being the best version of myself. ❤️🎊

Do you actually read your profit and loss each month or do you just run it?

Your Profit and Loss report is one of the most powerful tools in your business, but only if you're actually opening it up every single month. Comparing this month to last month, and this year to last year, helps you catch trends early instead of getting blindsided by them down the road. Your Gross Profit tells you whether your pricing is actually covering your costs, and your Operating Expenses show you exactly where overhead might be quietly creeping up. Reviewing these numbers monthly means you're making decisions based on real data instead of a gut feeling, which is the difference between getting ahead of problems and constantly playing catch-up. At the end of the day, the businesses that grow with confidence are the ones that know their numbers - and that starts with a habit as simple as a monthly check-in with your P&L.

Here are the steps you must take when reviewing your profit and loss. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Happy Friday, everyone!

We all get caught up in our business, work, school, and life. We’re all focused on growing to be the best version of ourselves no matter what we put our time towards success is built every step at a time. You will not fall through failure, success will catch you each time!

While I’m not focused on accounting, school work or working on my business. I’m putting in that work chasing a healthier lifestyle. The many hours spent sitting idle working on the computer, but that’s not what you should do as a business owner. To be the best version of yourself for your family or your friends or your business or for your life in general. Get moving. Be healthier. And Chase that money while you do it.

A known fact, that is true, if you work on your physical health, you will live longer, and you will have more time to build your career or business.

Stay blessed, take care, have a wonderful weekend and always remember.
