📢 A NEW EDUCATION TAX CREDIT IS COMING IN 2027
If you’re a taxpayer with school-age children, or you’re considering supporting education through a charitable contribution, here’s a tax update worth knowing.
Starting **January 1, 2027**, a new federal **Education Freedom Tax Credit** will allow eligible taxpayers to claim a federal tax credit for qualifying cash contributions made to approved Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs).
Here’s what the proposed rules say:
📌 **Up to $1,700** tax credit for eligible individual taxpayers
📌 **Up to $3,400** for married couples filing jointly
📌 Contributions can help fund K–12 scholarships
📌 Scholarships may cover qualifying expenses such as tuition, tutoring, books, supplies, computers and certain special-needs services
📌 The program applies in states that choose to participate
**Important:** This is a TAX CREDIT, not simply a deduction. And because the IRS has issued proposed regulations, taxpayers should pay attention to the final rules and their state’s participation before making a contribution.
If education expenses are part of your family’s financial planning, **2027 could bring another tax consideration to the table.**
