Vietnam is attracting American retirees with a cost of living about one-quarter that of the U.S., along with great beaches and a vibrant culture with plenty to do and eat. The country also has a low serious crime rate, while English is somewhat spoken in major cities.

While Vietnam does not yet have a formal retirement visa system, many expat retirees use a succession of 90-day Vietnam Electronic Visas. Popular retirement destinations include Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Hội An.

I’m truly inspired to attend the CSUF Center for Family Business event on August 12 and have the opportunity to meet Christine Walker-Bowman.

Christine is a fifth-generation member of the Walker family behind Farmers & Merchants Bank (F&M) and currently serves as Co-President of Farmers & Merchants Bank Foundation and Executive Vice President & COO of Farmers and Trust Company.

It was inspiring to hear insights about family business, leadership, legacy, and carrying a successful organization forward from one generation to the next. As someone who works closely with businesses and families, I especially appreciated the conversation about balancing tradition with growth and preparing the next generation for leadership.

Her family had already been giving to community organizations for generations, but as the bank became larger, they created the F&M Bank Foundation to make that philanthropy more organized and sustainable. Christine explained at the time that the bank and the organizations it supported had grown, so a formal foundation was needed to move their charitable work into the future.

Thank you to Dr. Tam Nguyen, the Director of the CSUF Center for Family Business for bringing together such a wonderful community of business leaders and creating opportunities to learn, connect, and grow. 💙🧡

The IRS announced on December 29 updated mileage rates for 2026, reflecting cost data and inflation.
• Business mileage increases by 2.5 cents.
• Medical mileage decreases by 0.5 cent.
• Charitable mileage remains unchanged.

Today marks an important step forward for taxpayers and fair tax administration: the IRS Math Act has been signed into law.

For years, the Internal Revenue Code allowed the IRS to make “math error” adjustments automatically, often without clear explanation and giving taxpayers just 60 days to respond or risk forfeiting their right to challenge the change. Millions of Americans have been affected by these vague, confusing notices, many unsure of what was corrected or how to respond.
