For years, the Internal Revenue Code allowed the IRS to make “math error” adjustments automatically, often without clear explanation and giving taxpayers just 60 days to respond or risk forfeiting their right to challenge the change. Millions of Americans have been affected by these vague, confusing notices, many unsure of what was corrected or how to respond.
