A janitorial business owner came to me a while back feeling stuck. He knew his numbers were off; he just didn't know how off or where to even start untangling it.
A couple of rough experiences with previous bookkeepers and CPAs had left him more confused than when he started.
We started by cleaning up the books, then sat down together to build a plan for what actually needed to be tracked going forward: where the biggest expenses were, what was necessary, and what wasn't.
That's when job costing came into the picture, something we continue to refine as the business grows.
Once the numbers finally told the truth, everything shifted. He found a CPA he trusts, and is preparing for next tax season instead of panicking. And now, he's getting ready to step out of the day-to-day operations and fully into the growth and relationships that will actually move his business forward.

The courage to keep trying after being let down twice, the willingness to actually sit with the numbers, that part was all him. Getting to watch someone go from "I don't even know where we stand" to having real understanding and momentum... that's the part of this job I never get tired of.
