A common question I hear from small business owners is:
👉 “We only have two employees — can they both be on salary?”

The short answer? Yes!
The number of employees doesn’t determine who can be paid on salary. “Salary” simply means paying someone a fixed amount for a set number of work hours — it’s about pay structure, not company size.

However, here’s the key part:
Being on salary doesn’t automatically make someone exempt from overtime. Only employees who meet the specific federal “exempt” criteria under wage and hour laws are not entitled to overtime pay.

In other words, it’s not how many employees you have — it’s how each role is classified.

Always a good idea to double-check your classifications so you stay compliant and avoid surprises later! ⚖️

Did you know forgetting to notify the IRS when you move could actually cost you big? 😬

Two recent cases are a good reminder: In one case, a taxpayer didn’t update her address — the IRS sent important notices to her old address, and she never saw them. By the time she found out, the deadline to respond had passed. The Tax Court dismissed her appeal for being late!

In another, the IRS sent collection notices to the wrong address because the taxpayer never officially notified them. The result? More stress, delays, and penalties that could have been avoided.

✅ Takeaway: Always file a change of address with the IRS using Form 8822 (and make sure your tax professional or payroll service updates their records too).
It’s a small step that can save you major headaches later!
