Having financial data and having useful financial visibility are not the same thing. 📊
Most real estate companies can produce a financial statement. Far fewer can answer these without building it by hand in Excel 👇
🏢 Which assets are actually generating returns — and which ones are being carried by the rest of the portfolio
📐 Which floor plans, unit types or communities carry the margin, and which quietly erode it
📉 Where actual results have diverged from budget and underwriting, and what caused the gap
🎯 Where to focus attention next, or deploy the next dollar of capital
After spending much of my career leading accounting and finance inside real estate businesses, that's the gap I've decided to focus my practice on: outsourced accounting, controller and CFO support for real estate companies, with reporting built for the way asset management and operations actually run.
The goal isn't to produce more reports. It's to build reporting that helps owners, asset managers and operators understand what's performing, what isn't, and why. ✅
I'll be sharing a lot more around this going forward.
