I had the privilege of attending the dedication and ribbon cutting for the first AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to be installed in Perry County.

As a rural community, emergency response times can sometimes be challenging. Having this lifesaving device readily available at The Lynn Sheaffer Dum Memorial Park in Elliottsburg is a tremendous asset for our residents and visitors and could make all the difference in a critical situation.

A sincere thank you to Member's 1st, UPMC, and The Peyton Walker Foundation for sponsoring and providing this AED for our community.

Thank you also to Spring Township and The Lynn Sheaffer Dum Memorial Park for hosting this important resource and helping make Perry County a safer place for everyone.

This is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when organizations and community partners come together for the greater good. ❤️

The Basics Trail at Bloomfield Borough Park is a dedicated early childhood path designed to encourage family interaction and preschool learning. Located off East McClure Street in New Bloomfield, PA, it features fun, painted interactive signs along an easy, extended walking path to support childhood brain development.

The installation—a partnership between the Perry County Literacy Council (PCLC) and Bloomfield Borough—promotes the five principles of "The Basics" movement:

Read and discuss stories
Respond with smiles, words, and touch
Talk, sing, and point to encourage communication
Explore through eye contact and loving tones
Count, group, and compare things around you

It is an ideal and engaging way for parents to enjoy the park's facilities—which also include a children's playground and baseball fields
