Beware of fly by night tax preparers. Signs to look for:

They tell you that the IRS doesn't know about income reported on tax documents.

They tell you the IRS will not know if you really went to school or not.

They encourage you to file depends that are not yours as your children.

They encourage you to only file certain tax forms

They tell you to switch who files your child to get extra children tax credit.

They claim stimulus that was already received.

They tell you that you can write off W2 income.

They create fake companies to take deduction.

They play with the numbers.

They don't ask for documentation.

They don't have an accounting background. The girl that use to do your hair should not be your tax preparers.

These are just some of the red flags that you should look for. Beware if you worked very little there is NO WAY 1 dependent can produce 10k refunds. Extremely high refunds are not common. Also interest and penalties start from the day you received the funds, not the day you get caught.

Tax preparation comes with a lot of education and continuous learning. Tax laws change frequently. When you sign that return you are telling the IRS that YOU certified the information is true, not the person who preparers it.
