Having retirement accounts doesn’t necessarily mean you have a retirement plan.
Over the years, I’ve met people who have done many of the things they were told to do.
They contributed to a 401(k).
They built savings.
They invested.
They bought insurance.
They paid down their home.
But there’s another question that often gets overlooked:
How are all of those pieces supposed to work together when you retire?
Where will your monthly income come from?
Which accounts will you draw from first?
How could those withdrawals affect your taxes?
Where do Social Security, healthcare, insurance, and your legacy fit into the picture?
Accumulating money is important. But as you get closer to retirement, coordination becomes just as important as accumulation.
That’s why I believe a retirement plan should be more than a collection of accounts. It should help you understand how your income, investments, taxes, healthcare and protection, and legacy decisions work together.
If you’re approaching retirement and have never seen all of those pieces on one page, let’s have a conversation.
