I always loved paper and organization; I think some of us are just built that way. I remember when I was a child, I took all the books off of my father’s shelf and set them up as if I had a library at home. I created the little pockets and filled them each with an index card. I bought a date stamp and an ink pad and “professionally” lent the books out to my family. Even though I stamped the book that went with the “borrower” and didn’t have a computer system to track the dates, I knew exactly when the books were due back and followed up with a reminder the day before.
My dad was very particular about his books, so I always took care of the ones he let me “play” with. Even today, all of my college text-books are displayed proudly on a shelf where I can see them daily and appreciate the knowledge they provided. Any book I have read is properly stored in the original book cover to protect the life of the book. I never bend the binding back too far or turn down the corners of the pages.
This care of paper and books translates into my business daily. One of my favorite things to do is to set up a new client binder! I make sure each one of my clients gets a brand-new binder, each one a different color and everything is organized into its appropriate section. I always know where something is because I take the time to put it where it belongs. Some people think it takes too long to be organized, but I honestly don’t know any other way. Like I said, some of us are just built this way.
