What are alternative investments, and do I need them?

Alternative investments can include assets like private equity, hedge funds, private real estate, commodities, and other investments outside of traditional stocks and bonds.

They often receive attention because they're different but different doesn't automatically mean better. For many investors, a diversified portfolio built around traditional investments may already provide what they need to pursue their long-term goals.

Every financial plan is different, but complexity isn't always an advantage.

Sometimes the best strategy is the one you can understand, stay committed to, and stick with over time.

Today marks an exciting milestone for LincolnBridge.

We're proud to share that we've officially closed on a new office building right here in Oglesby.

It's just down the street from our current office, but it represents an important next step for our team. Over the coming months, we'll be renovating the space with the goal of moving in before the end of the year. We'll also be welcoming additional tenants, with more details to come.

When we opened LincolnBridge, we set out to build a firm centered on long-term relationships, thoughtful advice, and serving our community well. This investment is another step in that journey.

We're grateful to our clients, friends, and community for the trust and support you've shown us over the past year and a half. We can't wait to share the progress along the way and welcome you into the new space soon.

Will a financial advisor pressure me into products?

It's a common concern and an important question to ask.

Not every financial advisor is compensated the same way, which is why it's helpful to understand how an advisor is paid.

As a fee-only financial planning firm, LincolnBridge is paid directly by our clients. We don't earn commissions from investment or insurance products, so our conversations start with your goals, priorities, and questions, not with selling products.

The right financial relationship should leave you feeling informed and comfortable, never pressured.

Asset allocation is one of those financial terms that's often mentioned but not always explained.

In simple terms, it's how your investments are divided among different types of assets, like stocks, bonds, and cash. That mix plays an important role in balancing growth potential with risk over time.

The key is that there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. The right asset allocation depends on your goals, timeline, income needs, and overall financial picture.

In our latest blog, we explain what asset allocation is, how it differs from diversification, and why it's an important part of building a well-balanced investment portfolio.

How much should I keep in my emergency fund?

Many people wonder if there's a "right" amount to keep in an emergency fund.

The reality is that there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Your ideal emergency fund often depends on factors like your monthly expenses, job stability, income sources, and personal circumstances.

For some people, a few months of expenses may be enough. Others may prefer to keep a larger cushion.

The goal isn't simply to save a certain dollar amount. It's to create a financial buffer that helps you navigate unexpected expenses without disrupting your long-term plans.

Are dividends a good thing? It's a question that comes up often.

Dividends are payments some companies make to shareholders, typically from a portion of their profits.

For some investors, they can provide a source of income. For others, they may be one piece of a broader investment strategy.

Like many financial topics, the value of dividends isn't determined in isolation. It's often about understanding how they fit within an individual's overall goals, timeline, and financial plan.

If you're wondering how dividends fit into your own financial picture, we'd be happy to have a conversation.

Should my portfolio become more conservative when I retire?

It's a common question and one without a universal answer. Retirement often changes how people think about risk, income, and long-term goals. At the same time, retirement can last decades, meaning many portfolios still need to support growth over time.

That's why conversations about investment strategy are often less about age alone and more about the bigger financial picture.
