The IRS announced disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses in Nebraska, primarily those affected by wildfires:
• In Morrill, Garden, Arthur, Keith, Grant, Lincoln, Dawson, Frontier, Saunders, and Red Willow counties affected by wildfires that began on March 12, 2026;
• In Custer County affected by the Pressey Fire that began on April 22, 2026;
• In Buffalo, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Nemaha, Richardson, Thayer, Thurston, and Howard counties affected by severe storms in Nebraska that began on May 15, 2026;
• In Dawes County affected by wildfires that began on May 16, 2026; and
• In Sioux County affected by wildfires that began on June 9, 2026.

These clients now have until Feb. 1, 2027, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. The same relief will be available to any other counties added later to the disaster areas. The current list of eligible localities is available on the Tax relief in disaster situations page on IRS.gov.

The warns of an evolving digital assets scam where fraudsters are sending fake IRS letters that direct you to enroll your cryptocurrency in a “Digital Asset Compliance Portal” by a certain deadline. No such portal exists.

If you receive this notice, do not scan the QR code or provide any personal or financial information. Scammers are trying to steal your information and digital assets.

Nebraska City and surrounding counties! We’re looking for volunteers! 🎉

We’ll be hosting virtual orientations for volunteer tax preparers.

Join us for a virtual orientation on September 2nd at either 12:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.

If you do not have access to a computer, our planned tax site at the Morton-James Public Library will be hosting the 12:00 p.m. orientation for volunteers to attend.

Our next volunteer tax preparer orientation will be held this Wednesday, August 12th, at 6:00 PM. If you are interested in attending, please complete a volunteer application by visiting our website, omahaeitc.org, and clicking on the “Join Our Team” tab.

We have created an NCCC Celebration Wall in honor of all the AmeriCorps NCCC teams that have served with us during tax season. There are location stickers on the map that are color coordinated to each year of service. We truly enjoy hosting people from all over the country and look forward to welcoming them year after year!
