Twelve years ago today, I received a call at work from my brother that forever changed my life. I dreamt about my daddy a few days ago - which doesn’t happen often- so I’m reflecting on the years he was here in the physical.
The last thing I said to my daddy was that I’ll see him when I come home for Easter. He nodded and waved me goodbye. I didn’t know that would be our last conversation.
His laughter and silly dance moves echo in my memories, reminding me to cherish every moment. My brother and I shared him with our cousins because my daddy treated them as his own; they affectionately called him Uncle Bobby.
He was the neighborhood mechanic who fixed everyone’s cars and taught so many of us how to drive. If anyone saw him outside, they’d pull up until the yard was full of cars, family, and friends.
Everything was gonna either happen on Tuesday OR it hadn’t happen since Tuesday- this annoyed my mama to no end 😂😂. His jokes and wild quotes still bring a smile to my face. “Breeze easy” was one of his favorite sayings when he wanted someone to calm down, chill out, or relax. So Daddy, we’ll breeze easy until we see you again. 💖
