I have the experience, knowledge, and skills to continue our Treasurer Department's mission and success. Originally from Alaska, I moved to Pahrump, NV in May of 2012, to care for my grandfather after the loss of my grandmother. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. I have 30 years experience in finance/accounting/auditing in both the private and public sectors. I accepted employment with Nye County Finance Department in August of 2016. I transferred to Nye County Treasurer’s Department in February of 2019 and currently hold the position of Chief Deputy Treasurer for Nye County. As my employment background includes being responsible for the Bank Reconciliation for the State of Alaska, Child Support Services Division, I successfully helped Nye County meet the requirements of the NRS, CLGF (Committee of Local Government Finance) and Department of Taxation. Nye County was placed on fiscal watch in January 2019 for failure to complete the required Bank Reconciliations and Treasurer’s Reports for over a year. I began researching and re-constructing Nye County’s Bank Reconciliation in June 2019, after a contract with a past Chief Deputy Treasurer expired. My first year with our Treasurer’s Department was challenging. The department was under the scrutiny of many eyes, and in need of organization, direction and updated process flows. In March 2020, we began to experience the fruits of our hard work. Our department was back on track with Bank Reconciliations and experienced very few new challenges. We triumphed through an extensive tax software transition and continued our services to Nye County Departments; employees; the State of Nevada; NCSD and our County taxpayers. I created processes and a platform for the Bank Reconciliation and Treasurer’s Report and have successfully compiled both reports for over 2 years. Nye County was removed from fiscal watch January 2021 as a result of that success and the result of the hard work and dedication of my co-workers. We experienced a lot of growing pains and conquered many internal and external challenges. By January of 2021, we grew, not only as individuals, but as a team. We became a well organized, efficient and effective department. I am a public servant. It is my goal to expand our departments’ internal knowledge, skills and abilities to ensure the continued success of our department and Nye County as a whole. I strongly believe that with my experience, knowledge and the combined dedication, hard work and support of my co-workers, we will continue to be successful and continue to improve operations for the Treasurer’s Department. Please help our department to continue our growth and success by Electing me, Raelyn Powers, as Nye County Treasurer.
