What’s new for PA tax returns:

The new Working Pennsylvanias Tax Credit.

The Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit (WPTC) is a new state-level tax credit modeled after the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The state credit equals 10 percent of your federal credit.

If you qualify for the federal EITC, you will automatically qualify for the state credit — helping to lower your taxes or increase your refund. The maximum state credit is $805.

Whats on my mind --- children that turn 17 in the year....Please change your W4. Child tax credit is for any child that is under the age of 17 as of Dec. 31 of that tax year, again CTC helps reduce your tax bill by $2000. Children that turn 17 anytime during the year will not be eligible for CTC. They are eligible for the credit for other dependents, which reduces your tax bill by $500.
Meaning you may owe instead of getting a refund.

Whats on my mind - CHILD TAX CREDIT (CTC) reality.... Child Tax Credit is a non-refundable credit. What does that mean? It means that it is a credit given to lower your tax bill. Once your tax bill is reduce to 0, it does not pay (refund any remaining monies). So what I am saying is you do not get a refund of $2000 dollars for each under 17 child on your taxes, you get a credit of $2000 to reduce your tax bill.

Now to complicated things, taxpayers may be eligible for a partial refund of up to $1,600 through the additional child tax credit (ACTC). This is where the refund comes from.

Retirees! Attention, yes the government said that you can work as much as you want and still get your social security. But what they forgot to tell you is that there is an income maximum. General, Social Security is taxed when your income is more than $25,000 a year, including income from your retirement accounts or investments accounts. If your yearly income is more than $25,000 you can elect to have taxes taken out of your check. Call social security to help you.

Day 1- good.
Its the new year and have you updated your W4 form? You should update this form in January every year and anytime there is a change in your household, so that it reflects what is accurate for your household, your taxes depend on it. I can tell immediately if your W4 is correct or needs updated, based on the amount of federal taxes taken out.
