DAY 10: Credit vs. Deduction
Tax Credit vs. Tax Deduction: Know the Difference!
These terms are often used interchangeably, but they aren't the same.
A tax deduction generally reduces the amount of income subject to tax.
A tax credit generally reduces your tax liability, subject to the particular credit's rules.
Some credits are refundable, some are nonrefundable, and some may have both refundable and nonrefundable
components.
Knowing the terminology helps you better understand your own return.
