Most financial advice is generic. Yours doesn't need to be — because your finances aren't reviewed only by you. They're
part of how your clearance gets adjudicated, both when you're investigated and, under today's continuous vetting rules, on
an ongoing basis. The Cyber Financial Resilience Scorecard can get you started. https://www.rpmfinancialgroup.com/cyber-financial-resilience-scorecard

Your salary doubled. Your net worth stayed flat.

For a Gov-Con executive, lumpy bonuses make it easy to spend before deciding what to keep.

That’s demoralizing after working so hard to move up.

01 “Where did all that money go?”

I start by tracing what you saved before you spent anything.

Without a savings rule, you spend the bonus on country club dues, car payments and eating out.

Each purchase feels reasonable on its own. Together, you’ve raised what it costs to live your normal life.

02 “How do I keep more of the next bonus?”

My clients pay themselves first.

Save 15 to 20% of your gross income, with a plan for regular paychecks and bonuses.

On a $100,000 bonus, saving 20% means keeping $20,000 for your family. Set aside taxes separately.

Automate your savings before you spend, and keep emergency reserves separate from money you use for everyday purchases.

Treat this as general education, not personal financial advice.

With inflation spiking again, your wallet feels very light.

For a $250K government contractor household, I look at when that income arrives.

01 "Why do I earn this much and feel broke?"

You pay higher prices every month.

With base pay, bonuses and RSUs, you don’t receive that $250K evenly throughout the year.

I start with base pay.

From there, I check how much you’re counting on future payouts to cover monthly bills.

Without a plan, you spend the bonus on whatever needs paying when it lands.

Then you’re waiting again.

I give that lumpy money a job before it arrives, including bills, taxes and reserves.

That way, you know how much is available to spend before you absorb it into everyday life.

For RSUs, I also check whether withholding covers your estimated tax owed.

This is general information, not individual financial advice.

$3,000 buys a lot of groceries for your household.

Deducting that amount reduces your taxable income. Your tax savings depend on your tax rate.

01 “Is tax loss harvesting even for someone like me?”

You don’t need to be wealthy to use investment losses on your tax return.

For federal employees and contractors, I review taxable accounts separately from retirement accounts like the TSP.

I start with what you paid for each investment, called your cost basis.

Then I check what’s worth less today.

By selling an investment below its cost basis, you realize a loss for tax purposes.

After offsetting taxable investment profits, most filers can deduct up to $3,000 against ordinary income annually.

Unused losses carry forward.

Before selling, I check wash sale rules that restrict repurchasing the same or substantially identical investments.

You’re salvaging something from a loss you already have, with the tax savings available for expenses like groceries.

This is general information, not personalized tax or investment advice.

Two consultants earning $300K don't necessarily keep the same amount.

I compare your taxes as a W-2 government contractor employee against what you'd pay through an S corporation.

You have to compare the same dollars.

At $300K in business revenue, you still have expenses to subtract before comparing your profit with someone's wages.

As an S corporation owner, you pay yourself a reasonable salary for your work.

You owe payroll taxes on that salary.

You don't pay self-employment tax on remaining pass-through profit, though you still owe income tax.

But you also pay for payroll services and a separate business tax return.

Around $90K in consistent self-employment profit, I start looking at the election.

I treat that as a review point, not an automatic tax win.

You already deduct legitimate business expenses without electing S corporation status.

Your tax professional needs to price out your reasonable salary and ongoing costs before calling the difference savings.

General information only. Review entity choices with your tax professional.
