The topic of passing the credit card merchant fee onto your patients has been a hot topic. If explained with honesty and transparency, most patients understand.

Conversation:
* Patient "Here's my card."
* Employee: "Okay, great. Just so you know, there's a small processing fee of [Percentage]% for credit card transactions. Is that alright?"
* Patient: "A fee? What's that for?"
* Employee"Yes, sir/ma'am. Credit card companies charge businesses a fee for each transaction. This fee covers the cost of processing and securing the payment. We have to pass along a small portion of that cost. We do offer a cash discount if you prefer to pay that way."
* Customer: "Oh, I see. I didn't realize that."
* Employee: "Yes, it's very common these days. Would you still like to use your card?"
