We have had some neat changes on the second floor of 1 Derby lately. As we know, my beloved Sea Wych sailed on to Essex Street. In her former space, Rob and The Witch’s Gate moved upstairs (making room on the lower level for Britt and Mars) and returning to Salem is Wytchwood under new ownership. Sam and Austin recently made the move to Salem with their kids and have settled into their new shop space beautifully. Come say hello!

Hi Friends!

I realized today that it’s been about a year since my last introduction post and I’ve accumulated quite a few new followers since last time.

My name is Lulu! I am a long term Salem resident, born and raised a few miles north in Gloucester. I have been the sole owner and operator of The Salem Plant Witch since August 11 2020. SPW started in my living room, an idea that came together partially formed in the midst of Compassion Fatigue from my career in Human Services and a temporarily disabling condition during the height of COVID-19. I wanted to create a space for people to learn about plants, their care, green witchcraft, and fostering an understanding of ourselves through the combination of these things. I started selling my Intention bottles at local shops and craft fairs before taking the plunge almost 3 years ago into operating my own retail spot downtown.

Some important stuff to know about me and the business (since this is a micro venture, I am the business and the business is me)

SPW is an LGBTQIA+ owned and operated shop. Open and affirming. I believe that Witchcraft is political and that Magic and Science are two sides of the same coin. No one can be illegal on stolen land. All persons deserve equal justice and equitable protection under the law. Housing and Healthcare are Human Rights.

In the beginning, I was a one woman show. I am at the shop as often as I am able and in the meantime, you all may see my new part time staff member, Sam. I try to be on top of my correspondence and messages. If I’m being really honest, I’m not perfect at it but I promise I am doing my best.

Here’s a photo of me and Rita the snake plant at the ages of 9 and 39. We have always been cute.

For those of you who have never been to the shop before, Rita is a snake plant that has been kicking around my family home since August of 1949 (she’s a Leo!) for my entire life she was potted around various rooms. Shes named after my grandmother, Rita, who was her caregiver for the first decades of her life. Rita lives next to the shop Grimoire and is always open to enthusiastic adoration.
