Not all deductions apply to anyone. Stop overpaying during tax time. These things may help lower your taxable income and keep more of your money during tax time.

- Contribute to retirement accounts (401k, 403b, 457b, or traditional IRA)
- Look for a 1098-E from your loan provider if you pay student loan interest
- If you are a full-time K–12 teacher, teacher’s aide, instructor, counselor, or principal, you can deduct unreimbursed classroom expenses
- Look for a statement from your car loan provider if you’re paying off car loan interest on a brand-new car. The car’s final assembly has to be in the United States
- If you get paid overtime, you can deduct the premium portion (the half of the time-and-a-half)
- If you get paid tips, you can deduct the tips on your tax return
- If you contribute to a qualified charitable organizations (registered nonprofits or religious organizations), save the receipts so that you can deduct those contributions even when you take the standard deduction

We don't get taught this in school: your withholdings are the taxes taken out of each paycheck.

You control this by 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐖-𝟒 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐚𝐱𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 (like the MD507 for Maryland, for example).

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 → adjust it so you owe little to nothing at tax time.

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 → have more taxes taken out of each paycheck.

It’s all about setting it up based on your preference 💡
