Earning $10,000 a month is not the problem here. The real problem is how that money is being managed!

Looking at this breakdown, it seems the financial priorities are completely upside down.

Spending $1,000 monthly on shopping, $650 on beauty maintenance, $875 on a car payment, and $260 on subscriptions, while investing only $50 a month, raises serious questions about financial discipline and priorities.

That’s $1,910 every month on shopping, beauty, and subscriptions alone, yet only $50 is being allocated toward building long term wealth.

The issue isn’t necessarily insufficient income. It’s the difference between looking wealthy and actually building wealth.

At $120,000 in annual gross income, there should be an intentional strategy for saving, investing, managing debt, and building assets.

Wealth is not determined by how much money comes into your account, but by how much you retain, invest, and grow over time.

And here’s something worth considering: The expenses shown actually add up to a $1,265 monthly deficit, not the $265 stated in the post.

My question to you is this:

If you were her financial coach, which THREE expenses would you recommend cutting first to turn this financial situation around?

Let’s discuss! 🤔👇🏽

US Single-Income Couples Protect Retirement Futures
Navigating retirement planning as a single-income couple requires strategic foresight—something I emphasize often with my clients. While dual-income households now represent about half of all married couples, roughly 40% of married families with children still rely on one income. Rising living costs, student debt, and housing expenses have made single-earner budgets more challenging, even as broader career and educational opportunities have shifted household dynamics.

For single-income families, it’s essential to look beyond today’s budget and focus on retirement readiness. At a minimum, maintain employer retirement plan contributions up to the match. Exploring part-time work or establishing a spousal IRA can further fortify your long-term savings. One disciplined approach I recommend is reverse budgeting: start by setting your savings targets first, then ensure you keep around one year of liquid reserves—using money markets, CDs, or taxable accounts, as appropriate for your risk tolerance and goals.

When it comes to Social Security, treat it as a coordinated decision. Delaying benefits for the older or primary earner can significantly enhance survivor benefits—a nuance that can make a real difference in your overall financial blueprint. As always, professional advice can help you weigh the complex trade-offs and make decisions with intention. Wealth is not an accident; it’s engineered, especially when it comes to protecting your family’s future.

TrumpIRA Explained: What Americans Need to Know
TrumpIRA is not a new investment account.

It is a federal initiative designed to help Americans compare affordable retirement accounts offered by private financial institutions, with a planned launch in January 2027.

Key Highlights
1. Retirement Savings Access: TrumpIRA aims to make it easier for Americans, especially those without employer sponsored retirement plans, to compare low cost traditional and Roth IRA options.

2. Government Matching Contributions: Starting in 2027, eligible retirement savers may qualify for a federal Saver's Match of up to $1,000 per individual or $2,000 for qualifying married couples, subject to income and contribution requirements.

3. Trump Accounts for Children: This is a separate program allowing eligible children under 18 to begin investing. Qualifying U.S. citizen children born between 2025 and 2028 may receive a $1,000 federal contribution.

4. Power of Compound Growth: A $1,000 investment earning an illustrative 8% annually over 65 years could grow to approximately $148,000, without additional contributions. Returns are not guaranteed.

5. Traditional and Roth IRAs Remain Important: TrumpIRA does not replace existing retirement accounts. Investors must still consider income eligibility, tax deductions, investment fees and retirement withdrawal rules.

6. Opportunities for Families: Parents can combine Trump Accounts, 529 education savings plans, custodial Roth IRAs and brokerage accounts to build a comprehensive generational wealth strategy.

My WealthSmart Perspective

The greatest opportunity is not simply receiving government contributions. It is leveraging those incentives alongside disciplined investing, tax planning and the power of compounding.

For families, the earlier children begin investing, the more time their investments have to grow. For working adults, maximizing eligible retirement contributions and available matching incentives can significantly strengthen long term wealth accumulation.

The bottom line: TrumpIRA could make retirement planning more accessible, while Trump Accounts offer eligible children another pathway to building generational wealth. Neither replaces the need for a comprehensive financial plan.

Wealth is built through education, consistency, time and strategic financial decisions.
