4 Key Changes for Your 2020 Tax Return | The Motley Fool

It's almost that time of year again! Where does the time go?? I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. Before we ring in the New Year, heres a little article explaining a few very subtle tax changes. Nothing too crazy, though! I hope everyone saved your receipts. Just because the standard deduction changed, that doesn't mean itemizing won't benefit you!!!

Tax law changes are more modest this year, but there are still some interesting ways you might save money.

Before the new tax season starts, I'm filing Theft of Services letters for people who currently still owe me, and have yet to offer a payment in full, or a payment plan. If you have a service performed, regardless if the outcome is you owe the IRS or not, payment is still required for services rendered. For all of my clients in good standing, I'll speak to you guys soon! Tax season is around the corner! #SaveReceipts

As of today, you have ONE WEEK LEFT to file your taxes! Get them done!

09/30/2019

Hey all!!!! Just a reminder...

October 15, 2019, is the last day to e-file your tax return. Taxpayers with an outstanding tax due to the IRS may have two penalties applied to them for each month it goes unfiled and unpaid.

Failure-to-file penalty: 5% of your tax due per month

Failure-to-pay penalty: 0.5% or 1% of your tax due per month

Both penalties for failure to file and pay is 47.5% of the tax due

After 60 days late: Minimum penalty of either the lesser of $210 or the full amount of your tax due

What are you waiting for? Avoid extra penalties and file now.

FYI....PLEASE keep in mind if you owe, you NEED to file, if you plan to have it paid by April 15th or not. Failure to do so will result in a late filing fee. Interest will begin to accrue on the amount you owe immediately. It isn't as scary as people think. You can set up a payment arrangement at IRS.gov, or you can pay the full amount there as well. Please don't be intimidated! Also, an extension does not extend the amount of time you have to pay. The interest and penalties will still continue to accumulate after April 15th.

Please remember if you owe and are putting off filing your taxes, or plan to file an extension, this does not stop late fees and interest from accruing. The amount owed is still due by April 15th. It is better to file and set up a payment plan ASAP. #FriendlyFYI
