Your nervous system treats a scary financial moment exactly like a physical threat. Same four responses, no difference as far as your brain is concerned.
Fight. Flight. Freeze. Fawn.
Fight is the impulse buy that makes you feel briefly back in control. Flight is the mail you keep walking past. Freeze is no decision at all. Fawn is agreeing to spending you can't afford so the conversation can end.
Carmen went $600 over in entertainment in March, then $526 in April. Five of her last six months held a real stressor, and every one of them showed the same spike. She wasn't careless. She just couldn't see the link between the stress and the spending.
Once she could, she caught it before the money left instead of after.
You don't need to see the whole mountain. You need to know which of the four is yours.
Comment QUIZ and I'll send the two-minute version, or it's in my bio. Save this for the next stressful month.
