Doug Knight for District 4 School Board

Doug Knight for District 4 School Board My name is Doug Knight and I'm running for Iredell Statesville Schools District 4 School Board. If you can't give, there are other ways to help the campaign.

I have three kids in the Iredell-Statesville School system, one at Celeste Henkel and two at West Iredell School. As any parent, I want their education to be challenging and prepare them for the future. Iredell-Statesville Schools does a pretty good job educating our kids. But 21st century jobs and problems require our children to be independent learners, to have marketable skills and the ability

to solve a wide range of problems. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education is the basis for solving the problems of a technological society. Through academic competitions, relevant, exciting, hands-on and out of the seat learning whenever possible, students can succeed in the future they will shape. To do this, funds to accomplish this task must be pushed as close to the learner as possible. Teachers, on the front lines of education, know what's best for their classroom more than principals or administrators. Control of education monies must be decentralized and put, whenever possible, into the hands of those affected most, the teachers. With education budgets ultimately derived from taxes, whether federal, state or local, Iredell-Statesville Schools must know how every dollar is spent and that it is spent in the most efficient manner. I will be actively involved in the budgetary process and ensuring the system is transparent and accountable to the citizens of Iredell County. Unfortunately, it takes money to run a campaign and getting out the message of efficient, student and teacher focused, hands-on, skills, problem solving based education for all Iredell-Statesville School System students. Our Story

I have two kids in the Iredell-Statesville School system, one at Celeste Henkel and one at West Iredell High School. My oldest son graduated from West Iredell High School last year and is currently a freshman at Lenior-Rhyne University. As any parent, I want their education to be challenging and prepare them for the future. Iredell-Statesville Schools does a pretty good job educating our kids. But 21st century jobs and problems require our children to be independent learners, to have marketable skills and the ability to solve a wide range of problems. And innovative solutions from proven problem solvers are needed to make this happen.
