Hey, hi, extended tax deadlines are HEREEEE!

Here's what's due on September 15th ↓

Individuals: Third installment of your 2026 estimated taxes

Partnerships: Extended Form 1065 + K-1s/K-3s, if applicable

S Corporations: Extended Form 1120-S + K-1s/K-3s, if applicable

Corporations: Third installment of your 2026 estimated taxes

Basically, no one is escaping this month unscathed by a tax deadline!

Mind my business? Bestie, I am!

My whole entire job is to stop small businesses from looking at their bank balance one day thinking they can afford new office furniture and then wondering why they couldn't pay themselves that same month. 🙃

"Bookkeeping stuff" isn't just reports you send to your CPA during tax season. It's the daily ins + outs of your finances that you need to know to be a successful business owner!

Don't get me wrong, a bank statement is a great start!

But all it really proves is that you spent money... it doesn't tell anyone what you spent that money for or if it truly was a business expense.

The IRS (and me, tbh) usually needs a little more context (like a receipt or invoice) that shares what you bought + that it was for your business.

Before you feel personally attacked, I'm NOT telling you to never use the Ask My Accountant category...

It's totally okay (and normal) to be unsure about where a certain expense belongs!

But before you hit Save + Close on that expense, I want you to add some sort of context in the memo section.

This gives your accountant something to go off of (and helps you remember why you were confused when they ask you about it 8 months from now!).

A memo as simple as "I bought a new cell phone, but I use it for both business + personal things" does the trick!

And if you want to skip stressing over how to categorize ~any~ transactions? Let me be your bookkeeper! 👋

Trying to recreate your entire 2026 mileage log by triangulating your trips from your Google Maps and calendar? 🔍

Do this instead ↓

📲 Download a mileage app like Everlance, MileIQ, or you can also use the QBO in-app tracker.

They automatically track all your trips! Each week, you can go in and categorize whether they were for a personal errand or a legitimate business purpose.

More of a pen + paper person? ✍️

That's totally fine! For each trip, write down these things:

→ The date
→ Starting location + destination
→ Total business miles
→ Specific business purpose
→ Which vehicle you drove (if you drive multiple)

Whatever you do, the IRS wants you to keep a ~timely~ log, so make time for a 5-minute mileage review in your calendar each week. 📆
