The IRS only accepts secure, official payment methods.
4. Donβt click random links.
Fake βIRS refundβ emails and texts are common. Always go directly to IRS.gov instead of clicking.
5. Protect your personal info.
Never give your SSN, EIN, PIN, or bank details to an unsolicited caller or message.
6. Verify who youβre speaking with.
If youβre unsure, hang up and call the IRS directly at 800-829-1040.
7. Use IRS Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN).
This 6-digit code helps prevent scammers from filing a tax return in your name.
8. When in doubt, ask a tax professional.
