PAG SEAMAN BA MAYAMAN? Basahin mo. 😊
The average seafarer earns 1k dollars / month.
Thus that's P450,000 in 9 months contract that they usually need to spend for a year which means they have earned something like P37,500 per month.
An average worker in Philippines earns P25,000 and that's around P350,000 a year including bonus and others. Following the total amount of income divisible by 12, the land base worker earns around P29,000/month.
P37,500 - P29,000 = P8,500 (difference b/n earnings)
Seafarers may seem attractive because of the salary but that's not always the case. Seafarers earn more but it's not that huge as compare to land based workers.
This post is not to belittle any workers or make a mockery of the earnings of any profession but this gives everyone an idea that seafarers aren't that rich not unless you're already an officer who earns triple or quadruple as compare to the average earnings of seafarers.
So please avoid asking them chocolates and gifts if not necessary because it's also a fact that Filipino seafarers are usual ''Yes'' person and will be embarrassed to not meet your requests. Apart from that, seafarers are mandated to give back 80% of their salary as an allotment which is usually used by their families so that means the usual take home of the seafarers are only 90,000 which they need to spend for about 3-4 months with the hope that they will be boarding after the vacation.. also they do have trainings that sometimes they pay out of their own savings 😊
Despite of that, I know a lot of people who still believe that It's still fun to be at sea. So let's help them by not giving burden but by giving support and appreciation on what they do for us and the world. 😊
