Principles of Interconnectivity (Cerf and Kahn’s internet) and its implication to Blockchain | Axelar Thailand Society
Bob Kahn and Vinton Cerf, was the designer of Kahn-Cerf Protocol, plan to expand and enable connections to other networks by using a protocol, or protocol and TCP/IP protocol (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol: TCP/IP) become known today.
There are 4 elements that core principles that any interoperability system need
1. No changes are required to integrate with others
Each distinct network must stand on its own, and no internal changes need to be required to any such network to connect it to the Internet.
2. Best-effort intermediate communication
Communication is done on a best effort basis. If a packet does not reach the final destination, it will be retransmitted immediately from the source.

3. Gateway-based connectivity
Individual networks should connect to other networks via black boxes (gateways and routers). These black boxes retain no information about the individual packet flows passing through them, thereby keeping them simple and avoiding complicated adaptation and recovery from various failure modes.

4.Decentralized control.

1. No changes are required to integrate with other chains
If blockchain B wants to add new transaction types to its consensus, then its developers need to coordinate with blockchain A developers on such upgrades and then upgrade the transition logic accordingly.

And this problem scales if blockchain B maintains N such connections to different networks. To simplify this, if using a laptop and there are software need to update l, and if there are 100 of software, it would be long and waste of time.
2. Best-effort basis with intermediate communication.
For blockchains, satisfying this property is tricky since we always want to achieve atomicity of asset and state transfers and avoid double-spending.So if a cross-chain packet is dropped, no user/application should lose their funds, and they should be able to re-send from their origins.
3. Gateway-based connectivity.
For blockchains, this means that each chain needs to host “gateway accounts” (smart contracts). All information from applications on one chain should be routed to these accounts. Underlying routing and delivery protocols should parse the information from these accounts and deliver it to the corresponding destination blockchains. These gateways should be easy to instantiate, as discussed above, and they should not depend on the state of N networks.
4. Decentralized control.
the network needs to include as many validators as possible for maximum security. There need to be both economic and utility incentives to participate in the protocol. The community and node operators must govern the protocol. Malicious behavior needs to be identifiable and addressed at the protocol level.

Introduction of Blockchain Interoperability | Axelar Thailand Society
Nowadays, we surf on the internet and browse websites and interact with different content from dozens of servers, networks, and geographic locations. Each web page includes links to other websites, frames, images, video, pop-up windows connecting it to other web pages.
Blockchain Interoperability
is still in the early days of ecosystem development like the internet were in 1990, and several core like protocols and APIs are missing that prevent us from achieving global blockchain adoption.
Several major platforms such as Ethereum, Cardano, Terra, Cosmos, Avalanche, Algorand, Near, Celo, and Polkadot offer distinct features and development environments need core protocols like the internet were in 1980
And that Axelar network offer the solution that includes a protocol suite and APIs.
However, there were not smooth as silk for users and developers in bridging and communication each other in 1990’s, and the problem had been solved by
The core protocols are
Cross-Chain Gateway Protocol (CGP). This protocol is analogous to Border Gateway Protocol on the Internet.
Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CTP). This protocol is analogous to application-level protocols File Transfer, Hypertext Transfer Protocols on the Internet.
Axelar network offers the following advantages:
• For blockchain platform builders: Ability to easily plug-in their blockchains to all other blockchain ecosystems. Only a threshold account needs to be set up on the chain to plug into the network.

• For dapps builders: Application builders can host their dapps anywhere, lock, unlock, transfer assets, and communicate with applications on any other chain via CTP API.

• For users: Users can interact with all applications across the ecosystem directly from their wallets. A Platform for Builders.

Finally, Axelar network is a platform for developers and a global community. Its governance model is open to anyone. Developers can propose new integration points, routing, and application-level protocols, and the users can decide whether to adopt them by voting on the proposals and, if approved, validators will adopt the changes
