Today marks a year since President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the first nationwide in an effort to manage the spread of the COVID-19 virus. A year since we were all called to national duty. A year since we took a step into a new normal that has irrevocably changed the way we live, work and interact with one another. Since then, the only constant we have known is change.

As we observe and hold space for all the ways in which this change has changed us and mourn all that we have collectively lost – may we also take the time to acknowledge our collective efforts, that have seen us through to this present. And while the future remains uncertain in many ways – may the knowledge that we have endured darker days, remind us of our resolve and strength and give us the courage to keep soldering on.
