Independent Contractor – Tax & Compliance Administrator

Location: Remote (South Africa)
Position: Part-Time Independent Contractor

AM Accounting Services is looking for an experienced and reliable Tax & Compliance Administrator to provide ongoing support to our growing accounting practice on a part-time independent contractor basis.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Administration

- Follow up with clients regarding outstanding tax information and supporting documentation.
- Monitor and follow up on tax payments and deadlines.
- Prepare provisional tax calculations and supporting documentation for review.
- Prepare income tax returns for individuals, companies and trusts for review and submission.
- Register trusts for income tax with SARS.
- Schedule and manage SARS appointments.
- Process SARS tax deregistrations.
- Handle SARS verifications and prepare responses to SARS queries.
- Update taxpayer banking details and registered particulars with SARS.
- Liaise with clients and SARS regarding tax-related matters.

Compliance

- Submit CIPC Annual Returns.
- Process and maintain CIPC Beneficial Ownership filings.
- Prepare and submit Trust Beneficial Ownership declarations.
- Maintain accurate client records and ensure all statutory deadlines are met.

Requirements

- Previous experience in tax administration within an accounting or tax practice.
- Sound working knowledge of SARS eFiling.
- Experience preparing income tax returns for individuals, companies and trusts.
- Experience handling SARS verifications, registrations and taxpayer maintenance.
- Experience with CIPC Annual Returns, Beneficial Ownership submissions and trust compliance.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).

Ideal Candidate

This opportunity is suited to an experienced tax and compliance professional who is self-employed, operates their own practice, or works as an independent contractor and has the capacity to take on ongoing work during normal business hours.

This is not a weekend or after-hours side-hustle position. The successful candidate must be available during business hours to communicate with clients, SARS and CIPC, meet statutory deadlines, and provide timely support.

I didn't know I had to pay provisional tax..."
It's one of the most common things we hear from business owners.
The truth is, provisional tax isn't an extra tax—it's simply paying your expected income tax in instalments throughout the year.
If you earn income that doesn't have PAYE deducted (for example from your business, freelance work, rental income or investments), you may need to be registered as a provisional taxpayer.
📅 The first provisional tax payment is due on 31 August.
Getting your estimate right can help you avoid unnecessary penalties and interest.

Heads up if you've got international travel coming up ✈️

SARS now requires everyone leaving or entering South Africa to submit an online traveller declaration before they go — it became compulsory from 1 July 2026. It replaces most of the paper forms you'd fill in on the plane.

You've got a 24-hour window before departure to submit it, and it can be done via the SARS portal, the SATMS app, or a QR code at the airport.
